This is a Part-Time >= 20 Hours Weekly position with the Department of Social Services. For more information on the Department of Social Services, please visit https://dss.sd.gov .

Summary

This position provides Activity Center coverage and leads recreational activities to provide ample opportunity for activity involvement among patients and and assists Therapeutic Recreational Specialists as needed.

Functions Performed

  • Leads and assists with group activities and events to provide patients with recreational, social interaction, and leisure activity opportunities.
  • Assists patients individually with various activities and modifies activities as needed.
  • Leads and assists with physically active groups, including weightlifting, gym games and lifeguarding..
  • Provides care for therapy animals.
  • Performs other work as assigned.

Daily contact with patients, treatment units, activities center coordinator, therapeutic recreational specialists, and Director of Recreational Therapy.

This is a part-time position. Hours may vary and can be flexible depending on coverage needs.

Monday – Thursday 2:30 p.m.-7 p.m.

Friday 12:30 p.m.-5 p.m.

Every other weekend 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Knowledge Of

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • recreational activity programming in a human service setting;
  • art, recreation, social and physical activities;
  • safety precautions applicable to activities;
  • basic work direction skills and techniques.

Ability To

  • communicate and document information and decisions logically, accurately, and concisely;
  • maintain records and create basic reports;
  • make proper responses to recreational safety and institutional facility security problems;
  • become a certified lifeguard.
