The successful candidate will be energetic, passionate, and creative. This role involves working directly with residents, so you must be gentle, responsible, and hardworking. Comfort with confused residents and a willingness to find fulfillment in small ways are essential.

Purpose/Belief Statement

The Activities Leader provides individualized activity care and services for residents, functioning as both a team member within the activities department and an interdisciplinary team member for an assigned unit(s). The role focuses on delivering quality care while managing resources effectively.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead various activities: one-to-one and group activities on/off assigned units, outings, and community events for a diverse population.
  • Provide supplies and equipment for residents to participate in activities.
  • Assist in planning, developing, coordinating, and evaluating resident-centered activities.
  • Plan and schedule holiday and special events, religious services, outings, and community involvement.
  • Assist with decorating for holidays and special events.
  • Escort residents to and from activities as needed.
  • Provide one-on-one follow-up with residents regarding behavioral episodes and interventions.
  • Participate in community outings with residents.
  • Arrange for specialized services (e.g., library, talking book) as needed.
  • Post activity schedules, posters, and announcements; maintain bulletin boards.
  • Coordinate activity plans with other departments regarding schedules, food, room arrangements, and transportation.
  • Involve residents in planning and evaluating activities.
  • Oversee resident participation in their activity programs.
  • Advocate for residents' needs, interests, and rights.
  • Participate in resident and family council meetings and community support groups.
  • Contact families/significant others for activities and involve families in planning.
  • Maintain up-to-date activity documentation.
  • Assist in monitoring programming inside and outside the center.
  • Support residents with ADL needs as required.
  • Supervise volunteers and participate in fundraising events.
  • Promote positive community relationships through outings and volunteer activities.
  • Perform clerical duties and other related tasks.
  • Attend training, education, and orientation sessions to enhance care quality.
  • Follow departmental policies, safety standards, and quality improvement programs.
Qualifications, Knowledge/Skills & Abilities
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in healthcare settings preferred.
  • Experience with relevant software applications preferred.
  • Ability to make independent decisions.
  • Excellent tactful communication skills with staff, residents, families, and the public.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and conduct activities.
  • Willingness to adopt new methods and principles.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Active state driver’s license; CDL may be required for larger vehicles.
