YMCA Camp Chandler is seeking an Activities Director to oversee the land-based activities, ensure safety, and deliver high-quality programs for campers.

Reporting to the Camp Director, you will lead activity staff, maintain equipment, coordinate programming, and help create a positive, inclusive camp experience.

The role requires outdoor work, strong organizational skills, and a commitment to safety standards; belay certification and active involvement in emergency response are essential.

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily operation of all land-based activities and program areas
• Provide leadership, direction, and support to activity staff and program leads
• Work closely with the Camp Director to ensure safety, quality, and camper experience
• Ensure activity areas are clean, organized, and ready for daily programming
• Conduct regular inspections of activity areas and equipment to identify safety concerns or maintenance needs
• Maintain a complete inventory of land-based activity equipment and supplies
• Remove damaged or unsafe equipment and communicate replacement needs
• Develop and maintain systems for storing, organizing, cleaning, and caring for activity equipment
• Ensure equipment is returned, accounted for, and stored after activities and at day’s end
• Monitor activity staff to ensure proper safety procedures, equipment use, and camper supervision
• Provide coaching, feedback, and additional training to activity staff when needed
• Assist with planning and implementing all-camp activities, theme days, and evening programs
• Ensure all activities follow Camp Chandler and YMCA policies, procedures, and safety standards
• Maintain belay certification and ensure proper belay and climbing safety procedures are followed in applicable activities
• Assist with emergency response and incident management within activity areas
• Communicate immediately with the Camp Director regarding significant safety concerns, camper or staff incidents, equipment failures, or other operational concerns
• Help create a positive, energetic, and inclusive environment within all land-based activity areas
• Complete additional programming, equipment management, safety, and camp responsibilities as assigned by the Camp Director

Activities Director

The Activities Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operation, safety, organization, and quality of Camp Chandler’s land-based activity programs. Reporting directly to the Camp Director, this position provides leadership and direction to activity staff and ensures that all land activities are operated safely, effectively, and in a way that provides campers with a fun, engaging, and meaningful experience.

The Activities Director serves as the primary leader for Camp Chandler’s land activities and is responsible for maintaining activity equipment, monitoring safety standards, supporting activity staff, coordinating programming, and ensuring that all activity areas are clean, organized, and ready for camper use.

Primary Responsibilities

• Oversee the daily operation of all land-based activities and program areas.
• Provide leadership, direction, and support to activity staff and program leads.
• Work closely with the Camp Director to ensure all activities meet Camp Chandler’s standards for safety, quality, and camper experience.
• Ensure all activity areas are clean, organized, properly maintained, and ready for daily programming.
• Conduct regular inspections of activity areas and equipment to identify safety concerns, maintenance needs, or replacement needs.

Expectations

The Activities Director must be able to safely and effectively oversee multiple land-based activity areas while maintaining a strong focus on camper safety, staff supervision, equipment care, and program quality. This position requires the ability to work outdoors for extended periods, regularly inspect and manage activity equipment, maintain accurate inventories, identify potential safety concerns, and communicate maintenance or replacement needs to the Camp Director. The Activities Director must be able to lead and support activity staff, respond calmly and appropriately to emergencies, and ensure that all land activities consistently meet Camp Chandler and YMCA safety standards. This individual should be highly organized, proactive, dependable, and attentive to detail while serving as a positive role model for activity staff and campers. The Activities Director should take ownership of the overall condition and quality of Camp Chandler’s land-based activity program and work proactively to ensure that activities, equipment, and facilities are always prepared for campers.
