Job summary

Greene Acres Rehabilitation and Nursing is seeking an Activities Director to lead resident-centered programming and coordinate therapeutic activities within our facility. You will develop and implement a calendar of activities to meet social, emotional and physical needs and manage the activities department.

The role requires coordination with clinical and care staff to ensure a holistic resident experience, adherence to regulatory standards, and a passion for enriching the lives of residents

Qualifications

• Degree and certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist; or
• Certified Activity Director by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals; or
• Two years’ experience in a social or recreational program within the past five years, with one year full-time in a resident activities program in a health care setting; or
• Prior completion of a state approved training course.

Responsibilities

• Meet the physical and sensory requirements and be able to work in the described environment.
• Identify and participate in process improvement initiatives that improve the customer experience, enhance workflow, and/or improve the work environment.
• Manage staff including hiring, training and developing, coaching, and counseling, and terminating department staff as necessary.
• Ensure employment practices comply with federal, state and local laws.
• Develop, organize, and implement activities to meet residents' social, emotional, physical, and therapeutic needs as identified in their care plans and within budget.
• Initiate and promote activities inside and outside the facility while ensuring safety and wellbeing of residents.
• Coordinate and verify assistance for activities and events as needed.
• Provide in-room activities for residents unable to attend daily events.
• Create an ongoing activity calendar that meets diverse needs and is accessible to all residents.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities of the Activity Director:

• Meet physical and sensory requirements stated below and be able to work in the described environment.


• Identify and participate in process improvement initiatives that improve the customer experience, enhance workflow, and/or improve the work environment.


• Management duties including, but not limited to, hiring, training and developing, coaching and counseling, and terminating department staff as deemed necessary.


• Ensure that all employment practices are administered fairly and without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, marital status, amnesty, or veteran status in accordance with applicable federal, state and local laws.


• Develop, organize, and implement a program of activities to meet the social, emotional, physical and other therapeutic needs of residents as identified on the residents' plan of care and within the specified budget.


• Initiate and promote activities both within the facility and outside the facility, as weather permits, insuring the safety and wellbeing of each resident at all times.


• Coordinate and verify that assistance is provided to residents for activities and events as necessary.


• Provide in room activities for residents who are unable to attend daily events.


• Create an ongoing calendar of activities, which creatively meets multiple needs and is accessible and appealing to both men and women of all ages and abilities.

Job Requirements of the Activity Director:

• Meet at least one (1) of the following criteria:


• Degree and certification as a therapeutic recreation specialist; or


• Certified Activity Director by the National Certification Council for Activity Professionals; or


• Two (2) years' experience in a social or recreational program within the past five (5) years, in which one (1) year was full time in a resident activities program in a health care setting; or


• Prior completion of a state approved training course.
