Job summary

Solaris HealthCare College Park in Orlando seeks an Activities Coordinator to plan, organize, and implement a therapeutic activities program that meets residents' social, educational, and physical needs in line with care plans and regulatory standards.

You will develop recreational services, coordinate volunteers, schedule monthly calendars, collaborate with other departments, and support resident rights and wellbeing; experience in healthcare settings preferred.

Qualifications

• Two years’ experience running social/recreational programs in the past five years (full-time in a healthcare setting preferred).
• Completion of a state approved training course is required or preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develops and delivers therapeutic recreational services to promote residents’ engagement in daily life.
• Charts residents’ attendance and participation in activities daily.
• Assists residents in organizing and participating in group/individual leisure activities.
• Assists in developing assessments of activities needs for each resident.
• Coordinates an effective Volunteer Program and community activities.
• Maintains a monthly calendar of activities and supports care plans across departments.

Purpose of Your Job Position

The primary purpose of your job position is to plan, organize, and implement a program of therapeutic activities designed to meet the social, spiritual, intellectual, emotional, educational and physical needs and interests of residents in accordance with the comprehensive resident care plan, and in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines and regulations, Solaris HealthCare’s established policies and procedures, and as may be directed by the Administrator.

Job Functions

• Administrative Functions
• Develops and delivers therapeutic recreational services to promote the residents’ opportunities for engaging in normal life enhancement pursuits and to increase and/or maintain functioning levels.
• Assures physician’s approval for involvement in recreational services; Maintains
• precautions/limitations list on each resident.
• Provides residents with opportunity and support for involvement in group and individual leisure pursuits (i.e. arts/crafts, community outings, religious activities, intellectual/educational activities, community/center service activities) based upon individual interests and needs.
• Invites/encourages residents’ participation.
• Assists residents in the organization and implementation of Resident Council Meetings.
• Plans community activities that jointly include the community, staff, families and residents.
• Completes a monthly calendar of available recreational services and posts it in the center.
• Assists in the development of the Center Newsletter.
• Coordinates an effective Volunteer Program.
• Charts individual resident’s attendance and participation in both group, individual and one on one recreational pursuits daily.
• Supports each resident’s right to self-determination; Documents resident refusal of activity services offered; informs resident of any therapeutic alternative to the refused service.
• Coordinates work of department with work of other departments.
• Assist in developing preliminary and comprehensive assessments of the activities needs of each resident.
• Ensure that all activities personnel are aware of the care plan and that care plans are used in providing daily activities to the resident.
• Develop and maintain a good rapport with all services involved with the care plan to ensure that a team effort is achieved in developing a comprehensive plan of care.

Education

To be qualified, must meet one of the following criteria:

1. Completion of a state approved training course

Experience

Two years of experience conducting social/recreational programs within the past five years, one of which was full-time in a patient activities program in a health care setting is preferred.
