Job summary

Walnut Grove Care and Rehab Center in McAlester, OK, seeks an Activities Director to lead resident-centered programs and events. The role includes planning monthly calendars, coordinating volunteers, and collaborating with Marketing for special events, while ensuring safety and care standards are met.

Ideal candidates will have 2+ years in a social/recreational healthcare setting, with a preference for an Oklahoma CNA license.

Qualifications

• Two (2) years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five (5) year, one of which was full time in patient (resident) activities program in a healthcare setting.
• Related experience with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques and mental illness understanding.
• Ability to work cooperatively as a team and communicate effectively with residents and families.
• Ability to react decisively in emergencies and maintain confidentiality.
• Knowledge of training techniques for clinical staff.

Responsibilities

• Develop monthly calendar of activities; schedule and implement based on facility plan and resident socialization.
• Photograph and submit activity results for media pages.
• Plan and organize special activities and assist with Marketing events.
• Cultivate relationships with referral sources to generate sponsorships and donations.
• Coordinate volunteers from organizations to work with residents on interests.
• Prepare snacks with residents; set up dining areas for activities; clean up afterward.
• Complete required logs and reporting; keep activity areas clean and safe.
• Assist residents to and from common areas per care plan; encourage participation.
• Assist other departments as needed and perform concierge duties; weekend/evening work as required.

Essential Functions of Activities Director:

• Develop monthly calendar of activities; schedule, preplan and implement based on facility activity schedule and socialization of residents

• Photograph and submit activity results for special media pages

• Plan and organize “special” activities for residents, including assisting with Marketing events

• Cultivate relationships with referral sources in an effort to generate sponsorship and donations for planned activities

• Coordinate volunteers form a variety of organizations and local groups to work with residents on special interests

• Prepare special snacks with residents

• Set-up the dining room tables for activities

• Clean up after all activities

• Complete required logs, charting and reporting in a timely manner

• Keep all activity areas clean, safe, and free from clutter

• Assist residents to and from common areas as stated within their care plan

• Work closely with residents to generate participation, attendance at activities

• Assist other departments with residents as needed and required

• Perform concierge duties as directed

• Weekends, holidays, and evenings as required.

Qualifications &Skills of Activities Director:

• Two (2) years of experience in a social or recreational program within the last five (5) year, one of which was full time in patient (resident) activities program in a healthcare setting

• CNA license for the state of Oklahoma is preferred.

• Related experience, with knowledge of psychiatric patient care techniques with understanding of mental illness

Requirements of Activities Director:

• Ability to lead facilitated group activities, comfortable working with residents

• Must be reliable, outgoing and enjoy being with the elderly

• Basic computer knowledge for implementation of patient/client information, electronic record keeping

• Must have current state driver’s license with clean driving record

• Current CPR, CAPE certifications
