Job summary

Piñon Unified School District in Piñon, Arizona seeks a dedicated Athletic Director to organize and oversee the district's extracurricular athletics, intramural and interscholastic programs. You will lead coach recruitment and evaluation, supervise staff, arrange transportation and meals for events, manage budgets, scheduling, and compliance with Arizona DOE rules, and foster school-community relations.

The role requires proven experience in athletics administration and a commitment to student

Qualifications

• Arizona DOE certification required (Elementary or Secondary).
• Previous experience as athletic director or high school-level athletic coach.
• Proven successful employment record.

Responsibilities

• Organizes and administers the overall program of extracurricular athletics for the district.
• Leads selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff.
• Fosters school-community relations by keeping the community informed about the athletic program.
• Organizes and schedules all interscholastic athletic events.
• Hires officials, medical staff, and law enforcement as needed; supervises home game operations.
• Arranges transportation for participants to athletic events.
• Provides meals for athletes and coaches for events outside the district.
• Implements rules and regulations governing athletic conduct.
• Verifies eligibility of athletes per established physical and academic requirements.
• Prepares and administers the athletic program budget; requisitions supplies and equipment.
• Supervises ticket sales and fundraising for the athletic program; manages funds.
• Coordinates visiting teams’ needs, gym services, and field support.
• Arranges use of fields and facilities outside school hours.
• Plans field and gym practice schedules.
• Keeps records of game results and award winners including athletic scholarships.
• Directs an in-school extracurricular program to foster support for teams and school spirit.
• Plans and supervises recognition programs for student-athletes.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Certified per Arizona DOE requirements; prior experience as athletic director or high school coach.

Job description

• Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.

• Hires officials, medical support and law enforcement as required, and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of home games.

• Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.

• Arranges provision for meals for athletes and coaches for events occurring outside of the school district.

• Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.

• Verifies each athlete according to established physical and academic requirements of eligibility for participation in each sport.

• Prepares and administers the athletic program budget.

• Requisitions program supplies and equipment.

• Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events of the athletic program, and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds.

• Arranges all details of the visiting team’s needs, gymnasium services, and field assistance.

• Makes arrangements for non-school use of playing fields and facilities.

• Arranges field and gym practice schedules.

• Keeps records of the results of all junior and senior high school athletic contests and maintains a record file of all award winners, stating the date and type of award including athletic scholarships.

• Directs an in school, extracurricular program designed to foster support for the athletic teams and school spirit among non-participants.

• Plans and supervises recognition programs for school athletes.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Elementary or Secondary Certified according to Arizona State of Department of Education Requirements.

• Previous experience as an athletic director or high school level athletic coach.

• Must have a proven successful employment record.
