In this job, every day you will…

  1. Assist in carrying out life enrichment programs as outlined in the monthly calendar and as directed by the Activities Director, including posting copies of the calendar throughout the care center for residents, families, and friends.
  2. Provide one-to-one programming for residents who cannot participate in group activities.
  3. Help decorate for holidays with residents and volunteers, and assist in executing special events.
  4. Coordinate with the Activities Director and other staff to transport residents to and from activities and events.
  5. Maintain life enrichment equipment and supplies, and organize activity storage areas neatly and efficiently.
  6. Assist in conducting life enrichment activities in the absence of the Activities Director.
  7. Support quarterly special events involving residents, families, friends, and the community.

Education & Experience needed to qualify :

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a state-certified activities training program or at least one year of direct programming experience with older adults is helpful.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and manuals.
  • Effective communication skills to speak before groups of residents, staff, and volunteers.
  • Valid commercial Class B driver’s license and access to a private vehicle for work may be required.

Ways to advance beyond the Activities Assistant role :

After mastering this role, you may consider positions such as Activities Director, Life Enrichment Assistant (assisted living), Life Enrichment Director (assisted living), Central Supply Coordinator, or other higher-level clinical roles (Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse, etc.) that require higher levels of education.
