Job summary

Minnewaska Community Health Services is seeking an Activity Assistant to plan, coordinate and implement daily therapeutic activity programs for residents under the Activity Director. You will help run group and one-to-one activities, assist residents to activities, and monitor changes in behavior or safety concerns.

Qualifications

  • The Activity Assistant needs to have a thorough knowledge of various Resident activities and familiarity with Resident limitations and needs.
  • Must be able to work in close cooperation with the Activity Director, accept and utilize constructive criticism and display initiative to complete activity related tasks and programs.

Responsibilities

  • Dependable and punctual attendance.
  • Assist and/or lead assigned group or one-to-one activity programs.
  • Assist residents to and from activity programs.
  • Report any changes in resident behavior, safety hazards or procedural difficulties to the Activity Director.
  • Distribute weekly activity calendars to residents.
  • Post monthly calendars on designated display boards.
  • Assist with an evaluation of resident according to their backgrounds, activity interests, abilities, physical limitations and needs for meaningful activity programs.
  • Maintain an up-to-date daily attendance chart on each resident.
  • Develop and display thematic/holiday decorations throughout the facility.
  • Help assist and instruct volunteers when necessary.
  • Ensure all daily mail is received by all residents.
  • Attend and participate at staff meeting, in-service training programs and other meetings as assigned.
  • Assist in maintaining equipment and supplies in a neat and safe manner.
  • Assist in maintaining planters, flowers, bird feeders as needed.
  • Serve residents coffee/snacks – Assist with serving resident beverages at noon meal.
  • Basic competencies of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and misappropriation of resident property.
  • Basic competencies of dementia management, infection control and other areas as identified through the facility assessment.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities required by OSHA Hazard communication, HIPPA, QAPI and other organizations.

TITLE: Activity Assistant
