Job description

Activities Assistant-H (Healthcare)

Participate in planning and conducting individual, small, and large group activities. Assist in ensuring effective communication between employees at all levels, residents, their families, support personnel, government agencies, and the public to meet the needs and interests of residents, the community, and the facility. Contribute to community planning related to the facility's interests and the needs of residents and their families.

Assist in developing the monthly activity calendar and maintaining attendance records. Support the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee in creating and implementing plans to address quality deficiencies as directed by the Activities Director. Participate in discharge planning, and develop and implement activity care plans and resident assessments.

Help arrange transportation for residents for outings, appointments, or discharges. Develop a monthly activity schedule that includes outings, group activities, and in-room activities for bed-bound or isolated residents. Encourage residents to participate in self-initiated activities such as hobbies, crafts, and reading, providing materials like Braille or audiobooks as needed.

Assist with documentation, including quarterly progress notes, as assigned by the Activities Director. Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the Activity Department. This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferably one year of experience in a long-term care facility.
  • Ability to read and understand technical procedures, policies, and manuals.
  • Effective communication skills to present information and respond to questions from staff and management.
  • Mathematical skills to apply concepts like fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
  • Problem-solving and reasoning abilities to interpret instructions and solve practical problems.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk frequently, lift up to 50 pounds, and perform other physical tasks as described.
  • Ability to perceive visual details such as color, depth, and focus.
