Job summary

Gateway Adult Residential Care is seeking an Activities Assistant in Eugene, OR. You will work with the Activity Director to plan, facilitate, and evaluate a diverse program that engages residents and supports their physical, spiritual, intellectual, creative, and emotional needs.

The role requires planning and logistics skills, driving capability with the company's vehicles, and adherence to safety procedures, with a sign-on bonus where applicable. A caring, mission-driven mindset is essential.

Qualifications

• Education or experience with nursing, recreational activities, event planning, or related fields.
• At least one year's experience working with persons with Alzheimer's disease or other forms of dementia.
• Experience working in an adult residential care facility or a facility serving persons with dementia.
• Knowledge of proper assistance with wheelchairs, walkers, canes, gait belts, and participant transfers.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug test.
• Obtain and keep current First Aid and Food Handlers Card.
• Maintain the required annual training hours.
• Obtain an Oregon Driver's License within the first 15 days of hire.
• Ability to drive or learn to drive the company's van and bus.
• Demonstrated aptitude for working with caregivers, seniors, disabled individuals, and/or individuals with dementia.
• Show passion and enthusiasm for the mission of Gateway Adult Residential Care and its clients.

Responsibilities

• Plan and facilitate meaningful daily, weekly, and monthly events to encourage socialization, relaxation, and recreation.
• Assist residents in attending and participating in activities as necessary.
• Handle logistics to make events possible, such as calls, advertising, budgeting, training volunteers, and coordinating transportation.
• Ensure events are well-provisioned, staffed, and run on time and within budget.
• Keep records regarding event planning, resources, participant interest, and safety notes.
