The Activities Assistant supports the Activities Director in planning and providing engaging, meaningful, and enjoyable activities for residents in a skilled nursing facility. This position helps create opportunities for socialization, recreation, and personal expression while promoting residents’ quality of life and overall well-being.
The Activities Assistant will also assist with resident transportation and facility outings, including operating the facility bus when needed.
Assist with planning, organizing, and leading a variety of daily activities and programs for residents.
Encourage resident participation while respecting individual preferences, abilities, and interests.
Assist with group activities including games, arts and crafts, music, exercise, entertainment, social events, and special programs.
Provide one‑on‑one activities and meaningful engagement for residents who may not participate in group programs.
Assist with decorating and preparing activity areas for special events, holidays, and celebrations.
Accompany residents on community outings, appointments, shopping trips, and other scheduled activities as assigned.
Safely operate the facility bus/van to transport residents when needed.
Complete required vehicle safety checks and report any maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
Assist residents safely when entering and exiting the vehicle and ensure appropriate safety procedures are followed.
Maintain accurate attendance records and documentation related to activities and transportation.
Communicate resident interests, needs, and participation to the Activities Director and appropriate members of the care team.
Build positive relationships with residents, families, staff, and visitors.
Ensure activities are conducted in accordance with facility policies, resident care plans, and applicable regulations.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized activity environment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Previous experience working with seniors, in activities, recreation, healthcare, long‑term care, or a related field preferred.
Must enjoy working with older adults and demonstrate patience, compassion, and enthusiasm.
Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
Ability to safely assist residents with transportation and outings.
Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record required.
Must meet all facility and insurance requirements for operating the facility vehicle.
CPR/First Aid certification preferred or required according to facility policy.
