Job summary

Patapsco Healthcare, a Peak Healthcare facility in Maryland, seeks a positive, compassionate Staff Activities Assistant to schedule and coordinate daily, weekly, and monthly events for residents. You will manage logistics, coordinate volunteers, and ensure activities are engaging, safe, and on budget under the Activities Director's guidance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; certifications may be required.
  • Education or experience in nursing, recreation, or event planning is preferred.
  • Training in first aid and CPR may be necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate daily, weekly, and monthly events to engage clients, residents or patients.
  • Coordinate logistics: calls, advertising, inventory, budgets, volunteers, and transportation.
  • Observe participants, gather feedback, and improve events accordingly.
  • Keep records of event resources and participant interest; document incidents as needed.
  • Report medical concerns or observations as required.
  • Ensure staff are trained and events run on time and within budget.
  • Provide participants with clear event instructions and safety guidance.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.

Position Title: Staff Activities Assistant

Summary: Patapsco Healthcare at Patapscois looking for a positive, compassionate activities assistant to schedule and coordinate events under the direction of the Activities Director. The activities assistant will create and handle the logistics for daily, weekly, and monthly events to engage clients, residents, or patients. They will speak to participants to get feedback, manage employees, volunteers, and resources, and deliver fun, safe events while on time and within the budget. You should be detail-oriented and possess excellent interpersonal and time management skills. To succeed as an activities assistant, you should strive to stage entertaining, engaging activities that will appeal to the age and physical or emotional condition of the client. You should be observant, driven, creative, and caring.

Duties may include, but not limited to:
  • Planning and facilitating daily, weekly, and monthly events to encourage socialization, relaxation, and recreation.
  • Implementing activities that accommodate those with special needs.
  • Handling logistics to make the event possible, such as making phone calls, advertising, managing inventory and budgets, training and motivating volunteers or employees, and coordinating transportation.
  • Observing participants at events gauge their enjoyment and obtain their feedback to improve events.
  • Keeping records regarding event planning resources, participant interest, and other notable information, such as injuries or behavioral incidents.
  • Reporting medical concerns or observations.
  • Ensuring that events are well-provisioned, the event staff is trained and prepared, and that the event takes place on time and within budget.
  • Providing participants with instructions for the event.
  • Adhering to and enforcing all safety procedures.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma and certain certifications may be required.
  • More education or experience with nursing, recreational activities, event planning, or related may be preferred.
  • Job training and first-aid and CPR training may be necessary.
  • Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.
  • Physical fitness, ability to walk, dance, stand, lift, or meet other physical demands.
  • Adaptability and strong organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent resource management, computer, record keeping, interpersonal, decision making, and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Patience and compassion when dealing with others, especially those who are sick, injured, elderly, or from different backgrounds.
  • Flexibility to work when needed, especially evenings, weekends, or early mornings.
  • Willingness to adhere to and enforce all safety policies and procedures.
Physical Requirements:

Push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds to a minimum height of three (3) feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of fifty (50) feet. (Not a complete list)

Preferred Skills:

Activities experience in a long‑term care setting preferred, but not required.

Per the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) guidelines, COVID-19 vaccines, or an approved religious/medical exemption, are mandatory and are a requirement to work in our community.
