JOB SUMMARY:Assists with planning, implementing, and monitoring recreation programs to meet the specific needs of each and all residents. Ensures residents’ lives are maintained to the fullest extent possible by providing activities and contact with the community.MAJOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Assists with designing a creative and exciting life enrichment program to meet the individual needs and interests of the community.May participate in tours of the Memory Care Unit.Participates in resident care needs on an ongoing basis, including ADLs (activities of daily living) as needed; directs and assists residents to dining room, assists with seating, serving and cutting food, serving beverages, salads, etc.Reports changes and information regarding residents to the nurse.Maintains cleanliness and neatness of work areas, common areas, and resident rooms.Serves as an advocate for resident rights and choice.Maintains confidentiality of resident care and issues.Strictly practices universal precautions, handwashing and general hygienic principles.Attends routine staff meetings and in-services.Other tasks as requested or assigned.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:Education and ExperienceExperience as an activity aide or directorLicenses and CertificationsNoneKnowledge, skills and abilitiesKnowledge of care for elderly persons with various acute and/or chronic health problems and/or dementia.Knowledge, understanding and compassion for human behavior and the ability to relate this to the care of aged, infirm, acutely and chronically ill residents.Ability to project credibility and assertiveness, and the ability to make mature judgments.Knowledge of the organization, function, policies, procedures and regulations of the facility, and the ability to apply these with professionalism.Ability to identify and anticipate the needs of residents and staff, and to intervene or refer to the proper authority as appropriate.Ability to work autonomously, and to react and perform appropriately during emergencies.Ability to assess residents’ conditions and provide information to physicians necessary for diagnostic and therapeutic intervention.Knowledge of resident rights and the ability to respond to each resident with empathy and respect.Knowledge of policies, procedures, philosophies, rules and regulations governing the delivery of services to consumers.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.Ability to follow oral and written instructions.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other departments, and consumers.Ability to deal courteously and diplomatically with consumers, visitors and staff.
