Job summary

Alta Planning + Design in Atlanta is seeking an Active Transportation Engineer to join our growing design team. This mid-career role focuses on sustainable bike and pedestrian infrastructure and advancing careers through mentorship and challenging projects.

You will collaborate with engineers, planners, designers, and analysts, working across scales from concept to detailed plans. Alta supports growth, training, and a flexible hybrid work environment in Georgia and beyond.

Qualifications

• 5–7 years of experience in transportation engineering or related field.
• PE license required.
• Experience with multimodal transportation design and complete streets.
• Strong communication and coordination with clients, contractors, and teams.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver multimodal transportation projects (complete streets, bikeways, pedestrian facilities).
• Handle geometric layout, grading, drainage, signing and striping, and multi-disciplinary coordination.
• Assist the Project Manager as task lead or assistant PM.
• Develop PS&E packages for bid-ready issues.
• Develop concept-level alternatives evaluating feasibility and impact.
• Participate in site visits for condition assessment and design input.
• Lead or support project coordination meetings with clients and teams.
• Support writing tasks, memos, scopes, budgets, and schedules.
