Job summary

Alta is seeking an Active Transportation Engineer to join our Atlanta design team. This mid-career role focuses on sustainable bike and pedestrian infrastructure, multimodal solutions, and street reconfigurations across Georgia.

You will collaborate with engineers, planners, and landscape architects, mentor junior staff, and advance designs from concept to bid-ready plans while contributing to training and process improvement.

Qualifications

• 5-7 years of experience in transportation engineering, preferably in a consulting or public sector.
• ABET/EAC-accredited degree in Civil/Transportation Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; Civil 3D or similar software; MicroStation/OpenRoads preferred.
• Strong background in multimodal transportation design including complete streets and pedestrian improvements.
• Ability to design, manage, and deliver project tasks (layout, grading, drainage, coordination).
• Strong communication skills for client interaction and teamwork.
• Willingness to travel as needed for site visits and meetings.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver multimodal transportation projects including complete streets and bikeway design.
• Perform geometric layout, grading, drainage, coordination, and construction staging.
• Assist the Project Manager as task lead or Assistant Project Manager.
• Develop PS&E documents for bid-ready packages.
• Develop concept-level alternatives considering feasibility and impacts.
• Participate in site visits to assess conditions and inform design decisions.
• Lead and support project coordination meetings with clients and teams.
• Contribute to technical write-ups, memos, scopes, budgets, and schedules.
