Position Summary, Duties and Responsibilities
We are seeking a dedicated and qualified Active Adult Fitness Instructor to join our team at Apex Park and Recreation District. As an Active Adult Fitness Instructor, you will provide comprehensive and engaging classes focusing on corrective exercise for chronic conditions. Your primary responsibilities will include conducting our BONES and Senior fit classes to assist in the mitigation of chronic conditions improving strength, balance and coordination.

EXPECTED HOURS AND CLASS OVERVIEW:

BONES is a popular specialized fitness class designed for older adults with osteoporosis. This class focuses on strength, stability and functional movements. The group is filled with energetic participants who show up ready to work hard, and don’t want to be treated as fragile. Ideal candidates will understand how to program safely for osteoporosis while still delivering a challenging, upbeat, and empowering experience as well as providing modifications for those in need.

Senior Fit, a popular specialized class for older adults who love to move, lift, and be challenged. This class has a slower, focused pace and includes strength, posture, and balance as well as functional movements. Ideal candidates will understand how to program safely for active adults while still delivering a challenging, and empowering experience as well as providing modifications for those in need.

Expected Initial Hours; Wed 10:35-11:35am and Friday 8:30-9:30am

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct and develop comprehensive and quality fitness classes for our active adult population, namely our BONES and Senior Fit program.
  • Promote Fitness and Wellness through safe instruction of Active Adult Fitness Classes.
  • Attend the required training and staff meetings.
  • Be punctual and maintain a professional demeanor with class patrons
  • Aid during emergency situations.

Job Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Nationally recognized Personal Training certification.
  • NASM CES, ACSM EIM or comparable certification preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED certification required upon hire.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to build rapport with clients.
  • Proficient in corrective exercise principles
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 45 pounds


Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Health Sciences, or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum of 1 year of active adult class instruction or active adult personal training experience


Work Environment

  • Works primarily in a fitness facility setting.
  • May include weightrooms, fitness studios, and exercise areas.
  • May be exposure to loud noises, temperature variations, and occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals.
  • May be required to perform physical actives such as standing, walking, lifting, and spotting clients.
