Job summary

Sacramento Superior Court seeks a Court Commissioner to perform judicial functions as prescribed by law, serving as a temporary judge at the direction of the Presiding Judge. The role covers a range of matters including civil, small claims, criminal and family law cases with rulings and orders as required.

Ideal candidates are active California Bar members with extensive experience, able to handle high-volume assignments, maintain courtroom decorum and pass a criminal history background check.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of legal principles and precedents as applied to judicial procedures.
• Familiarity with California Evidence Code, California Rules of Court and judicial ethics.
• Strong English usage and business communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Preside over civil and small claims actions; criminal and traffic arraignments; hearings and trials with appropriate rulings.
• Adjudicate matters before the Court and issue judgments, orders and written findings.
• Conduct judicial hearings in family support cases and other matters as assigned; maintain decorum and a fair courtroom.
• Review court files and prepare court documents and records pertaining to findings.
