Academic Approach is seeking tutors/teachers to deliver high-impact 1-on-1 and classroom instruction across the Chicagoland area, with in-person work at our Lincoln Park office and on campus partners. Most hours vary seasonally; the role is not full-time, typically averaging 8-12 hours per week.
New tutors should commit for at least one full school year, with content quizzes prior to interviews. Training is robust and paid, with opportunities for growth and travel compensation for longer
Compensation: $35/hour for 1-on-1 tutoring; $47/hour for classroom instruction
Academic Approach is firmly committed to creating a diverse workplace and is proud to provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity and/or expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, genetics, marital status, amnesty status, or veteran status. Applicants of diverse backgrounds, skillsets, and experiences are especially encouraged to apply.
Academic Approach began with a focused mission: to mentor students while building their key academic skills. Join our team of dedicated educators to deliver rewarding, highly personalized, high-impact 1-on-1 and classroom course instruction.
While many of our 1-on-1 tutoring students and school partners prefer to work virtually, we are currently looking exclusively for candidates who are also willing to tutor in-person at our Lincoln Park office and teach in-person on the campuses of our partner schools. Please note that this is not a full-time position, and it will not be a good fit for those seeking full-time work; while average hours per week vary drastically from instructor to instructor and can vary seasonally, most of our instructors average 8-12 instructional hours per week.
We are looking for new tutors/teachers to add to our team for at least the duration of the 2026-27 school year. If you are unable to commit to at least one full school year, we respectfully ask that you not apply.
Please note that–due to the nature of this tutor/instructor position–all candidates will need to complete a content quiz that includes English and math questions prior to being considered for an interview. This (untimed) quiz should take approximately 30-45 mins to complete.
We believe strongly in our robust training. Our training modules are each a combination of synchronous sessions with a trainer and asynchronous work. We identify each candidate’s best pathway through our trainings and send personalized invitations to training that include more details. All trainings are paid.
Prioritizes their students, leading with curiosity, compassion, and enthusiasm for their success.
Maintains a growth mindset, incorporating the instructional best practices from extensive training and coaching to lead their students to success.
Consistently maintains professionalism in all facets of the role, actively collaborating with students, clients, and colleagues in pursuit of program success.
Flexibility in building your schedule while supporting the needs of our students. Many 1-1 students prefer to meet on the weekends and after school during the day, while our classroom programs (typically condensed from December to April) are often, though not exclusively, during the school-day.
