Job description

ACT/SAT and Academic Tutor

Department: Education

Employment Type: Part Time

Location: Winnetka

Compensation: $35.00 - $50.00 / hour

Description

Compensation: $35/hour for 1-on-1 tutoring; $47/hour for classroom instruction

Academic Approach is firmly committed to creating a diverse workplace and is proud to provide equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, gender identity and/or expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, genetics, marital status, amnesty status, or veteran status. Applicants of diverse backgrounds, skillsets, and experiences are especially encouraged to apply.

About Academic Approach: Academic Approach began with a focused mission: to mentor students while building their key academic skills. Join our team of dedicated educators to deliver rewarding, highly personalized, high-impact 1-on-1 and classroom course instruction.

About the Role: We are currently looking for candidates who are interested in tutoring 1-1 students in-person at our Winnetka offices. Please note that this is not a full-time position, and it will not be a good fit for those seeking full-time work; while average hours per week vary drastically from instructor to instructor, most of our instructors average 8-12 instructional hours per week.

We are looking for new instructors to add to our team for at least the duration of the 2026-27 school year. If you are unable to commit to at least one full school year, we respectfully ask that you not apply.

About our Content Quiz: Please note that--due to the nature of this tutor/instructor position--all candidates will need to complete a content quiz that includes English and math questions prior to being considered for an interview. This (untimed) quiz should take approximately 30-45 mins to complete.

About our Training: We believe strongly in our robust training. Our training modules are each a combination of synchronous sessions with a trainer and asynchronous work. We identify each candidate's best pathway through our trainings and send personalized invitations to training that include more details. All trainings are paid.

A Successful Academic Approach Tutor & School Programs Teacher:

  • Consistently maintains professionalism in all facets of the role, actively collaborating with students, clients, and colleagues in pursuit of program success.
Key Responsibilities

  • Build relationships in a supportive and professional manner.
  • Maintain an accurate calendar in Microsoft Outlook.
  • Respond to administrators, students, and parents in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate management skills and professionalism in both remote and in-person settings.
  • Attend required training and professional development events.
Required Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in any subject or major. We are always looking for academic content experts for our AP Exam and Academic support programs, especially in maths, sciences, and humanities. While not a requirement for this role, we give preference to candidates with content expertise; please consider which topics you would be comfortable teaching.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, inclusion, and educational equity.
  • Passion for supporting student success.
  • Ability to demonstrate academic expertise in English, math, reading, and science.
    • All of our Tutors/Teachers must teach all subjects on the ACT.
