Acquisition Editor – Oxford Intersections

ABOUT THE ROLE

This is an exciting opportunity to join Oxford University Press (OUP) as Acquisition Editor for the Oxford Intersections program within the Academic Division’s Research Books Editorial function. The role reports to the Executive Editor, Multidisciplinary Initiatives, and works alongside a core team of interdisciplinary acquisitions editors and editors embedded in the Humanities and Social and Behavioral Sciences teams.

As Acquisition Editor, you will lead the development of OUP’s short‑form digital interdisciplinary publishing program, Oxford Intersections. You will identify, conceptualize, and commission new research publishing topics under the Intersections umbrella, nurture relationships with scholars worldwide, and secure regular publishing of original research on emerging areas of societal and cultural focus. Your work will influence the Press’s publishing and research offerings, enhance its scholarly and public reputation, and support the broader Content Strategy and Acquisitions group in responding to changes in research and writing practices.

ABOUT YOU

• Enthusiastic about short‑form research publishing and collaborating across the humanities, social sciences, and behavioral sciences.
• Minimum 4 years of publishing or transferable professional experience from related fields or advanced study.
• Experience with the business and legal aspects of publishing, including negotiating contract terms with editors and contributors.
• Understanding of academic publishing, peer review processes, production, marketing, industry trends, competitors, and AI tools.
• Outstanding communication skills and ability to build trust, share ideas clearly, and manage complex challenges with internal teams and external partners.
• Curiosity about emerging research ideas and willingness to collaborate with scholars across disciplines.
• Keen interest in developing new ideas to drive strategic publishing initiatives.
