Responsibilities

• Assist in producing, updating, and reviewing critical documents for program office use that support acquisition and sustainment logistics.
• Support the program office through all milestones and phases from concept to Operations & Support.
• Apply the Air Force’s product support elements in alignment with the PSM Guidebook.
• Provide expert assistance with transportation plan development and the defense transportation system process.
• Assist in GFP/GFE purchasing to determine costs, budgets, and procurement.
• Identify and propose solutions to reduce weapon system total ownership costs.
• Integrate logistics functions into unified fielding and sustainment plans.
• Monitor milestone compliance and track action items across teams.
• Perform schedule and risk assessments and propose mitigations to leadership.

Job description

The Acquisition Logistician Journeyman assists in planning, executing, and managing an affordable, comprehensive systems support strategy. Serving as a key interface at Program Office and Staff levels, this role supports cradle-to-grave acquisition and sustainment logistics across all lifecycle phases—from Materiel Solution Analysis and Technology Maturation & Risk Reduction through Engineering & Manufacturing Development (EMD), Production & Deployment, and Operations & Support. The Journeyman operates with high independence to evaluate schedules, troubleshoot programmatic challenges, and ensure system readiness and supportability within established cost, schedule, and performance constraints.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist in producing, updating, and reviewing critical documents for program office use that support the full spectrum of acquisition and sustainment logistics efforts.
• Support the program office through all milestones and phases, including Materiel Solution Analysis, Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction, EMD, Production and Deployment, and Operations and Support.
• Apply the Air Force’s 12 product support elements in alignment with the Product Support Manager’s (PSM) Guidebook.
• Provide expert assistance with transportation plan development and navigating the defense transportation system process.
• Apply knowledge of Government Furnished Property (GFP) and Government Furnished Equipment (GFE) purchasing to assist in determining costs, developing budgets, processing purchase documentation, and resolving availability issues.
• Identify and provide recommendations and solutions to reduce weapons system total ownership cost.
• Integrate logistics functions—including supply, maintenance, procurement, and quality assurance—into unified fielding and sustainment plans.
• Monitor program milestone compliance, track action items across functional teams, and integrate multi-agency taskings.
• Perform schedule and risk assessments, identify conflicting priorities, and propose actionable mitigations to program leadership.
• Review engineering and logistics changes to evaluate their impact on weapon system availability, supportability, and budgets.
• Facilitate stakeholder alignment across government and contractor teams regarding program goals and conflict resolution.

Logistics Policy, Guidance, and Acquisition Planning

• Apply a working knowledge of logistics policy and guidance, including Title 10 United States Code Section 2466 (depot-level maintenance limitations) and applicable Air Force systems.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the theories and principles of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) planning, development, and execution to integrate functions into a structured, viable program.
• Utilize an understanding of system life cycle concepts and design principles as they apply to research, development, and acquisition.
• Maintain a working understanding of contractual processes, procedures, and technical requirements.
• Assist in the planning, analysis, and coordination required for a system’s (or subsystem’s) acquisition and subsequent transfer into operational use.
• Assist in performing material solution analyses leading up to design reviews.
• Produce and support the development of draft documentation and presentation materials as requested or necessitated by programmatic limits based on cost, schedule, and performance.
• Assist in identifying and correlating specific resource requirements (funding, manpower, material, facilities, and services) needed to support the program.
• Assist in developing and analyzing data to define logistics objectives and goals.

Logistics and Maintainability Support

• Assist in evaluating Common and Peculiar Support Equipment (CSE/PSE)
• Support Reliability, Availability, and Maintainability-Cost (RAM-C) program evaluations and logistics test and evaluation planning.
• Assist in the development of logistics support plans, maintainability programs, and systems acquisition requirements analysis.
• Conduct systems acquisition requirements analysis and participate in life cycle cost and budget control activities.
• Assess Automated Information Systems (AIS) compatibility, software/hardware standardization, and technical baseline data.
• Research, compile, and validate maintenance and operational data from automated reporting systems to support decision-making.

Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) Management

• Coordinate and monitor day-to-day ILS activities across diverse technical and operational organizations.
• Track project deliverables to ensure compliance with established program baseline criteria.
• Advise USG leadership promptly on emerging schedule variances, deficiencies, and priority conflicts.

Professional Skills and Capabilities

• Demonstrated ability to operate independently, apply acquisition logistics procedures, and troubleshoot complex operational issues.
• Effective interpersonal and briefing skills suitable for interacting with Program Office and Staff-level leadership.
• Strong critical-thinking ability to synthesize logistics data into clear programmatic courses of action.

Required Experience

One of the following combinations of education/experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree (BA/BS), and ten (10) years of experience in the technical/professional discipline, three (3) of which must be in the DoD; -OR-
• HS Diploma, and fifteen (15) years of directly related experience , five (5) of which must be in the DoD
• U.S. Citizenship required; Ability to obtain and maintain an active Secret security clearance.

Preferred Experience

• Prior United States Air Force (USAF) or Department of Defense (DoD) supply system experience supporting aviation.
• Practical experience evaluating, planning, and managing Common Support Equipment (CSE), Peculiar Support Equipment (PSE), and Support Equipment Recommendation Data (SERD).
• Professional experience using FedMall.
• Experience with the D043 system.
• Experience coordinating directly with Item Managers.
• Familiarity or experience with Depot Source of Repair (DSOR).
• Familiarity or experience with Source of Repair Assignment (SORA).
