Job summary

Bose Corporation in Framingham, MA is seeking an experienced Acoustical Engineer to join the Audio Technology Licensing group and help deliver Bose technologies to end consumers. You will collaborate with engineers and external partners to design, tune, and test acoustical systems across wearables and loudspeakers.

The role requires a BS in engineering, 8+ years of acoustic design, MATLAB proficiency, and hands-on measurement skills. Hybrid work, on-site 3 days/week; travel 4–6 weeks/yr.

Qualifications

  • BS required in Acoustical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of direct acoustic design experience on high-performance audio products.
  • 2+ years of hands-on acoustic test/measurement experience.
  • Critical listening skills (system voicing, music, etc).
  • MATLAB for acoustical measurements and algorithm development; Simulink a plus.
  • Knowledge of room acoustics and measurement techniques; transducers incl. MEMS.

  • Develop acoustical system design concepts to achieve product performance requirements.
  • Use simulation tools to predict acoustical system behavior.
  • Define and characterize physical prototypes of acoustical systems.
  • Conduct acoustical measurements of components, subsystems, and full assemblies, and analyze results.
  • Work with DSP engineers and external partners to tune and optimize system performance.
  • Communicate results through peer reviews and customer-facing engagements.
  • Collaborate with external partners to meet product performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with Audio Technology Business Development and Product Management on early technical engagements.
  • Travel domestically and internationally up to 4–6 weeks per year.

Job Description

Be a part of the growing Audio Engineering team that seeks to deliver experiences to every place where audio matters! The Bose Audio Technology Licensing group is seeking a passionate, hands-on Acoustical Engineer to take part in supporting our dynamic needs as we develop partnerships across many industries - all with the goal of finding new opportunities to widely deploy Bose technologies. You will be a key member of our cross-functional team, working closely with your Bose colleagues and external partners to successfully develop and deliver our technologies to end consumers.

Hybrid Working Environment

3-days/week on-site presence is required.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with engineering team members to design, tune, and test audio devices, across a wide range of form factors and product categories covering wearables and out-loud devices.
  • Develop acoustical system design concepts to achieve product performance requirements.
  • Use simulation tools to predict acoustical system behavior.
  • Define and characterize physical prototypes of acoustical systems.
  • Conduct acoustical measurements of components, subsystems, and full assemblies, and perform thorough analysis of results.
  • Work directly with DSP engineers and external partners to tune and optimize system performance and signal processing algorithms.
  • Clearly communicate results through peer reviews and external customer-facing engagements.
  • Collaborate with external engineering partners to develop and validate physical acoustical designs and signal processing capabilities to meet product performance requirements.
  • Collaborate with Audio Technology Business Development and Product Management teams to support early technical engagements with new partners.
  • Travel (domestic and international) may be required, up to 4-6 weeks per year.
Minimum Qualifications
  • BS required in Acoustical, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 8+ years of direct acoustic design experience of high-performance audio products.
  • 2+ years of hands-on acoustic test/measurement experience.
  • Critical listening skills (system voicing, musical instrument experience, audio mixing, music production, etc).
  • Knowledge of MATLAB for acoustical measurements as well as algorithm simulation/development. Simulink knowledge a plus.
  • Understanding of room acoustics and measurement techniques.
  • Familiarity with transducer design, lumped parameter models, micro drivers, ECM, and MEMS devices.
  • Knowledge of headphone and wearable acoustical structures, enclosure/port design, and noise cancellation technology a plus.
  • Experience specifying requirements for acoustical components, including: loudspeakers, micro-speakers, microphones, acoustic meshes.
  • Strong understanding of acoustical test/measurement systems and techniques.
  • Knowledge of voice communications techniques and microphone systems, including: beamforming, speech processing, acoustic echo cancellation, voice activity detection.
  • Experience using and selecting acoustical test equipment from B&K, GRAS, Audio Precision, National Instruments, Listen Inc. (SoundCheck), and others.
Compensation

The hiring range for this position in the primary work location of Framingham, Massachusetts is: $112,200-$154,200. The hiring range for other Bose work locations may vary.
