Job summary

Del Valle Independent School District in Del Valle, TX is seeking a part-time after-school instructor to support students in grades Pre-K through 8 in a safe, engaging setting.

Qualifications

Job Description

Primary Purpose: Provide students in grades Pre-K through 8 with academic and enrichment learning opportunities in a safe, engaging after-school setting. Lead hands-on activities designed to support academic growth in core subjects (reading, math, science) and enrichment experiences in arts, STEM, physical activity, and social-emotional learning. Program hours are 3–6 PM on elementary campuses and 4–6 PM on secondary campuses. Hours may vary by campus needs. Classes may be canceled due to low attendance or budget fluctuations, with notice provided as available.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or regional accrediting agency).
Education/Certification
  • Candidates must have a satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50) paid by employee.
Required Experience
  • Experience working with school-based personnel, community groups, or youth programs preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Enrichment and Academic Support
  • Provide hands-on, engaging activities that combine enrichment and academic concepts aligned with DVISD ACE x LEAD guides and TEKS where appropriate
  • Deliver lessons that promote skill-building in reading, math, science, or other core areas
  • Submit activity lesson and unit plans on pre-arranged dates to Enrichment Program Specialists
Student Growth and Development
  • Support student learning through purposeful academic and enrichment instruction
  • Encourage creativity, collaboration, and problem-solving skills in a positive environment
  • Travel with students and supervise during evening or weekend events if applicable
Classroom Management
  • Supervise students during all assigned program hours and transitions
  • Maintain accurate daily student attendance and submit to Enrichment Program Specialist
  • Manage student behavior according to the Student Code of Conduct and ACE x LEAD Behavior Matrix
  • Create a classroom climate that supports the physical, emotional, and social development of all students
  • Promptly report incidents or injuries using proper documentation
  • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
Organization Improvement
  • Follow all instructions from Enrichment Program Specialist and campus administration
  • Ensure all work hours and duties align with the goals of the after-school program
  • Accept feedback and participate in continuous quality improvement efforts
Communication and Community Relations
  • Serve as a positive role model and represent the values of DVISD
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and leadership
  • Maintain open and respectful lines of communication with school staff and families
Professional Growth and Development
  • Attend all required trainings and meetings
  • Participate actively as a member of the after-school instructional team
  • Adhere to campus and district policies and guidelines
Qualities of Effective After School Instructors
  • Arrives punctually and clocks in/out as scheduled using True Time. Submit time correction forms on the same day if clock-in/out is incorrect.
  • Does not work beyond assigned hours without prior authorization.
  • Notifies Enrichment Program Specialist and Campus Principal of absences with at least 24 hours’ notice
  • Provides two weeks’ notice if no longer able to serve in the after-school role
  • Maintains a safe environment and reports unsafe conditions immediately
  • Complies with all district, state, and federal policies and standards of conduct per Board Policy DH (Legal) and (Local)
  • Staff who are employed by the campus during the regular school day and are also working the after-school program are expected to remain on-site and fulfill ACE duties, even on early dismissal days when they might otherwise leave early
