Job description

Experience: 3+ years of healthcare revenue cycle experience focused on accounts receivable, payment posting, or insurance billing.

Core Areas: Insurance accounts receivable, payer follow-up, denial resolution, payment posting, ERA/EOB reconciliation, unapplied cash, AR aging, payer reimbursement.

The Accounts Receivable Specialist manages insurance receivables from claim submission through final resolution. Reporting to the RCM Manager, this role follows up on outstanding payments, resolves denials and reimbursement discrepancies, and maintains accurate payment records to reduce aging balances and improve cash collection.

The position works with Candid, a claims and revenue cycle management platform, alongside scheduling and electronic medical record (EMR) systems. Coordination with billing leadership and RCM, operations, finance, clinical, and product teams supports timely collections, reliable reporting, and lasting improvements to reimbursement workflows. The work requires independent queue management, detailed reconciliation, and professional communication with payers and patients.

What You'll Do
  • Manage an assigned portfolio of insurance accounts receivable, progressing claims from submission through final resolution while reducing aging balances.
  • Follow up with payers on unpaid claims, underpayments, and payment discrepancies to obtain payment and close outstanding items.
  • Investigate claim denials and rejections, preparing corrected claims, appeals, and reconsiderations with the documentation required by payers.
  • Review claim edits and rejections before and after submission, working with the RCM team to identify root causes and prevent repeat denials.
  • Post and reconcile insurance payments, adjustments, and remittances accurately and on schedule.
  • Research unapplied cash, overpayments, and underpayments, resolving discrepancies against contracted reimbursement rates.
  • Track AR aging, denial trends, and payment posting accuracy, contributing findings to the weekly RCM flash report.
  • Answer patient questions about claims, account balances, and billing professionally, escalating payer or system issues to the appropriate owner.
  • Identify recurring reimbursement and process problems and recommend changes that reduce denials and accelerate collections.
  • Resolve denied claims before timely filing deadlines, keep payment posting current, and support measurable progress toward the cash collection target.
  • Translate recurring payer, coding, and workflow issues into process improvements that strengthen collection accuracy and reporting reliability.
Qualifications

Required Experience

  • At least 3 years of healthcare revenue cycle experience focused on accounts receivable, payment posting, or insurance billing.
  • Experience resolving claim denials, underpayments, and payment discrepancies.
  • Experience posting payments and reconciling electronic remittance advices (ERAs), explanations of benefits (EOBs), deposits, and unapplied cash.

Required Skills

  • Working knowledge of medical billing, insurance claims processing, and payer reimbursement.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills to maintain accurate records and manage outstanding receivables.
  • Ability to manage priorities and an assigned work queue independently in a remote environment.
  • Ability to communicate asynchronously through Slack and email and participate effectively in virtual meetings.
  • Ability to develop an approach and execute it, seek assistance promptly when needed, and work through unfamiliar or challenging tasks.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with direct feedback.
  • Commitment to secure protocols that protect patient and provider information.
  • High personal integrity and a patient-centered approach to supporting families navigating maternal health and baby feeding needs.
  • Ability to work constructively within administrative processes and the healthcare regulatory environment.

Additional Requirements

  • A valid driver's license and REAL ID.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a startup or high-growth healthcare or telehealth organization.
  • Familiarity with Candid, Availity, or similar claims and payer-connectivity platforms.
  • Experience with women's health, maternal health, or lactation coding.
  • CRCR, CPB, CPC, or another healthcare revenue cycle certification.
  • Unlimited paid time off plus company holidays.
  • Eligibility to participate in a 401(k) plan.
  • Flexibility associated with a remote-first working environment.
