A family-owned organization is seeking a senior-level, hands-on Accounts Payable Manager to lead a 6–10 person AP team at corporate headquarters.
The organization is looking for a leader who can balance accountability with approachability — someone who can manage tenured team members while remaining involved in daily operations.
This is not a pure automation transformation role. This is a people-first leadership position that requires presence, engagement, and willingness to work “in the weeds.”
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a 6–10 person Accounts Payable team, including a Supervisor
- Oversee full-cycle AP operations across 6 entities and 17 locations
- Ensure timely processing of invoices, vendor payments, reconciliations, and reporting
- Maintain strong internal controls and deadline accountability
- Partner closely with senior finance leadership and operations
- Support month-end close and financial reporting processes
- Manage vendor relationships and resolve escalated issues
- Maintain consistency and structure without disrupting established team culture
Ideal Background
- 8–15+ years of Accounts Payable experience
- Prior AP leadership experience managing multi-level teams
- Experience in large, complex organizations (preferably $500M+ revenue)
- Multi-entity and multi-location exposure strongly preferred
- Manufacturing or industrial experience preferred (not required)
- Strong system proficiency; Dynamics 365 experience is highly desirable
- Degree strongly preferred
What Success Looks Like
- Strong people manager who can work with both highly tenured and newer team members
- Sets expectations and holds team accountable — without alienating staff
- Practical mindset vs. overhaul-focused change agent
- Strong communication and executive presence
Why This Role
- Zero history of layoffs
- Multi-generational family ownership with long-term stability
- Clear runway to grow into broader finance leadership (AR team has Director level structure)
- Exposure to ownership and executive leadership
