Job summary

The Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOTPF) is seeking an Accounting Technician 3 in Alaska to oversee statewide PCard processing and lead a small accounting team. The role focuses on review of thousands of PCard transactions, mentoring staff, and ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.

Responsibilities include training, coordinating with 150+ processors, and applying GAAP while using IRIS to resolve complex accounting issues in a dynamic state government environment.

Qualifications

• Two years of technical accounting or bookkeeping experience, including at least one year at the full-proficiency level.
• Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college may substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level.
• Post-secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.
• Post-secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
• An associate’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.

What you will be doing:

Join the Department of Transportation & Public Facilities and help Keep Alaska Moving. We are looking for a detail-oriented accounting professional to lead and oversee statewide Purchasing Card (PCard) processing.

In this role, you will:

• Serve as the department’s PCard-processing expert, providing accurate and timely review of approximately 45,000 annual PCard transactions in excess of $10M.
• Is the main point of contact for PCard-related questions and supports 150+ processors across the department
• Lead, train and mentor a team of PCard processors consisting of an accounting technician 2 and an accounting clerk to ensure consistent, high-quality work.
• Analyze and certify financial transactions and prepare/distribute daily reporting to department-wide staff.
