Iowa Workforce Development is seeking a full-time Accounting Technician 2 in Des Moines, IA, to join the Unemployment Insurance Tax Bureau. The role involves processing payments, balancing batches, and supporting tax operations in a hybrid work environment.
The position requires a high school diploma or GED with accounting experience or related post-secondary accounting coursework, plus applicable state experience or equivalents.
Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) is seeking full-time Accounting Technician 2 to join our team in Des Moines, IA in our Unemployment Insurance Tax Bureau.
Process, reconcile, and balance payment batches; prepare deposits and DAT (data) files; process ACH applications; research and correct payment discrepancies; maintain documentation; process transfers and returned items; and provide back-up support for Tax Bureau mail processing.
Process ACH credit payments and paper checks received daily. Deposit paper checks through remote check scanner. Create DAT files to apply payments to accounts. Prepare manual deposit that may not be readable or accepted by remote deposit check scanner. Troubleshoot errors and/or report any errors or issues to relevant staff as needed.
Compile, reconcile, and balance all payment batches submitted in MIUI (myIowaUI tax system) daily. Payment batches include H-Batch (manually applied paper checks), A-Batch (no new money), G-Batch (suspense items), V-batch (paper checks), ACH Credit Batch/ACH payments, and Returned Items (payments returned or rejected by the bank).
Process ACH applications from Employer received by email, mail or fax. Send confirmation letters to Employers when ACH payment method is set up for the Employer's account.
Research balancing discrepancies to identify and correct payment errors. Maintain a spreadsheet of all reconciling entries, void suspense payments, and produce documentation for state auditors and TPS (Tax Performance System).
Work with Financial Management of all State of Iowa Internal Exchange Transfers. Process and complete offsets of returned item documents and transfer payments.
Provide back-up assistance to Tax bureau staff responsible for processing Tax Bureau mail during absences and high levels of business activity.
