Start your career in public service. The Georgia Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Family & Children Services (DFCS) is seeking applicants for the position of Accounting Technician 1. This position is located in Douglas, Coffee County, Georgia.

Pay Grade: G

Under direct supervision, performs paraprofessional accounting and fiscal control functions, such as accounts payable and receivable, payroll preparation, budget monitoring or related general accounting processes. This position reports to the Fiscal Operations Manager and/or Financial Operations Generalist Supervisor and will be housed in the Region Accounting Office. The successful candidate will be motivated and passionate about changing the lives of children and families, brings a deep knowledge of child welfare and foster care placement services from a public/private perspective. The incumbent will be able to work in partnership with stakeholders to achieve the mission, vision, and Blueprint for Change of the Division.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Balances and reconciles accounting records, statements, journals, ledgers or reports.
  • Collects fees or revenues, disburses payments and posts to appropriate accounts.
  • Compiles and maintains records and files.
  • May analyze financial reports to assess compliance.
  • Performs routine accounting, clerical, billing, and/or claims processing duties for assigned accounts.
  • Enter invoices daily, enter receipts, restricted funds, general journal and rerates.

Core Competencies:

  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines.
  • Ability to multitask and work well with a team.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED AND two (2) years of job-related accounting or fiscal experience.
OR
  • One (1) year of experience at the lower level Accounting Technician Trainee (FIT019) or position equivalent.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, demonstrate some or all the following education/skills/experience:

  • Prior customer service experience.
  • Prior accounting office experience.
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and Word skills.
