Position Details
Title: Accounting Support Specialist
Location: Administration Building
Reports to: Finance Director
Job Type: Full-Time/Exempt
Summary
This position supports the Finance Director in executing board policies and administrative procedures related to accounting, grants, budgeting, reporting, and purchasing in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles in a manner that maintains and enhances the financial integrity of the district. Incumbent will work to assure the smooth, efficient, and accurate accounting and reporting of district operations.
Qualifications
- Minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (Preferred)
- One year minimum of related job experience or expertise in accounting or applied financial leadership. (Preferred)
- Previous experience in a school environment. (Preferred)
- Possess or willing to obtain the Michigan School Business Officials Business Officer Manager Certification.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities (SKA) Required
- Strong fiscal management and accounting skills.
- Knowledge of federal, state, local laws, regulations and procedures relating to financial management.
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
- Must be organized and flexible.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, resourcefulness, and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, the Board of Education, and other schools.
- Possess the ability to work as part of a team, think creatively, and relate well with other team members.
Position Responsibilities
- Support district fiscal functions in accordance with GAAP and district policy.
- Provide accounting support for district and reporting functions.
- Assist in preparation of monthly and year-end financial statements.
- Assist Finance Director with budget preparation and monitoring.
- Prepare and analyze financial information for administrative level decision-making.
- Ensure fiscal compliance and maintain required documentation for all district grant programs.
- Ensure the timely monthly reconciliation of all bank accounts.
- Other duties as assigned by the Finance Director.
Salary/Benefits
A regionally competitive salary, minimum $41,000, will be offered, that is commensurate with the successful candidate's qualifications and experience plus a competitive benefit package.
