Job summary

Steele County is seeking an Accounting Supervisor to lead the accounting and office staff, ensuring accurate financial records, billing, AR/AP management, and timely reporting. The role includes coordinating the Human Services department budget and overseeing grant management from a fiscal perspective.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise accounting and office staff to ensure accurate financial records and compliance.
  • Oversee AP, billing, billing rates and AR for the department; manage monthly invoicing.
  • Prepare and manage the department budget; analyze trends and generate reports.
  • Ensure adherence to state and Federal program requirements and related regulations.
  • Participate in grant management from a fiscal perspective and assist with audits and hearings.

Responsibilities Under the direction of the Human Services Director, and with coordination of the Finance Director, the Accounting Supervisor is responsible for the daily supervision, oversight, direction, and administration of staff engaged in carrying out accounting and office-related functions to maintain all financial records, accounts, billing, accounting receivable, accounts payable, and fiscal transactions; prepare and help manage the Human Services department budget; prepare and/or oversee the preparation of multiple, complex fiscal/statistical reports; implement, modify, and manage automated accounting systems, oversee and manage the billing function, case aids, and office management. This position will also have direct oversight over grant management from a fiscal perspective. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Supervises and directs the activities of staff to ensure compliance.
  • Oversees staff development and training.
  • Informs director(s) regarding personnel issues, performance issues, etc.
  • Completes staff evaluations, disciplinary actions, and addresses complaints.
  • Budget and Reporting
  • Assists with the development and management of the department budget.
  • Analyze trends and report pertinent data.
  • Prepare financial and statistical reports.
  • Accounting
  • Manages AP, billing, billing rates and AR for department.
  • Oversees processing of bills, vendor claims, and monthly invoices.
  • Monitors and reviews cash drawer for accuracy.
  • Assures all statues and regulations related to all accounting activities are effectively and professionally administered.
  • Participates in appeal hearings as necessary.
  • Collaborates with Human Services Director in developing, reviewing and revising programs, policies, procedures.
  • Provides leadership in departmental team meetings.
  • Attend various state, regional, and location meetings/training sessions.
