Job summary

ARIZONA DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS in Phoenix seeks an Accounting Supervisor to lead the financial audit program within the Office of the Comptroller. The role supervises staff, analyzes transactions, and ensures costs are properly allocated across funding sources while maintaining strict fiscal controls.

The position requires a four-year accounting background or related degree, with strong knowledge of GAAP, SAAM, and government accounting practices.

Qualifications

• Understanding government accounting principles and fiscal management.

Responsibilities

• Lead and review the work of team members within the unit.
• Identify and correct transactions to ensure accuracy.
• Provide training to new and existing staff to reduce errors.
• Create and maintain standards of work for the accounting team.
• Use accounting systems to access and review data files.
• Analyze information to identify inconsistencies and issues.
• Communicate with departments and management to collect or correct information.
• Prepare, review, and analyze accounting records and reports for GAAP and SAAM compliance.
• Serve as a technical accounting liaison between central office, customers, and business units.
• Implement new accounting procedures and improve processes.
