Accounting Specialist – National Indemnity Company

Location: Omaha, Nebraska – National Indemnity Company (a Berkshire Hathaway company). This position is not eligible for employer visa sponsorship.

Job Overview

The Accounting Specialist prepares and processes daily deposits, prints and mails outgoing checks, balances daily cash transactions, and assists with special projects and data entry for the company.

Responsibilities

• Prepare daily deposits (incoming checks and cash) for all companies.
• Notify personnel of checks received, obtain deposit approvals, and follow up to minimize holding time.
• Print outgoing checks, verify batch totals, obtain required signatures, and organize signed checks with remittance enclosures for mailing.
• Assist the Cash Manager with daily cash summaries and transaction coding for assigned companies.
• Perform special projects such as compiling financial reports and transferring information to the computer.
• Assist with electronic statutory quarterly or annual statements and filings by entering, verifying, and printing data.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and work overtime as deadlines require.
• Train others in work procedures and solve problems as they arise.

Required Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and two years college credit or equivalent work experience.
• One or more years of bookkeeping or accounting experience.
• Basic accounting knowledge and math through algebra.
• Personal computer proficiency and related software.
• Typing 35 wpm with accuracy.
• Strong proofreading, data organization, and confidentiality skills.
