Job summary

Nextpower is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our Project Accounting team in Fremont, California. Reporting to the Manager, Project Accounting, this role will play an important part in supporting the financial management and accounting activities of our projects while partnering closely with cross-functional teams across the organization.

This position is based in our Fremont, CA office and follows a hybrid work model, with an expectation of working onsite

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 2-5 years of relevant accounting or audit experience.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statements.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, including clear explanations of accounting conclusions.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort learning ERP and reporting systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and post journal entries and meet monthly, quarterly, and annual close deadlines.
  • Own balance-sheet reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve issues promptly.
  • Analyze account fluctuations and explain variances for management review.
  • Maintain schedules for accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, intercompany activity, and other assigned areas.
  • Support financial reporting packages, including roll-forwards, tie-outs, and disclosures.
  • Apply US GAAP and company policies; research and document complex matters with guidance.
  • Support accounting for acquisitions and other business initiatives.
  • Prepare concise analyses for management, auditors, and cross-functional partners.
  • Maintain project records from contracts, purchase orders, pricing, billing schedules, and shipping terms.
  • Prepare customer invoices and validate quantities, pricing, milestones, delivery evidence, taxes, tariffs, credits, and contract adjustments.
  • Apply ASC 606 point-in-time revenue recognition and document transfer of control using contract, shipping, delivery, and acceptance terms.
  • Perform revenue cutoff procedures and reconcile revenue, receivables, contract balances, inventory, or cost of sales.
  • Resolve invoice disputes, credits and rebills, collections follow-up, project reconciliations, and financial closeout.
  • Execute assigned controls and retain required evidence.
  • Coordinate audit requests and maintain organized support.
  • Identify process gaps and implement practical improvements to accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Partner across Finance, Legal, and Operations to resolve accounting issues and improve data quality.
  • Support system implementations, automation, and special projects.

This position is based in our Fremont, CA office and follows a hybrid work model, with an expectation of working onsite four days per week. The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and bring strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to supporting project and business objectives.

Key Responsibilities
Close and General Accounting
  • Prepare and post supported journal entries and meet monthly, quarterly, and annual close deadlines.
  • Own balance-sheet reconciliations, investigate variances, and resolve issues promptly.
  • Analyze account fluctuations and explain variances for management review.
  • Maintain schedules for accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, intercompany activity, and other assigned areas.
Financial Reporting and Technical Accounting
  • Support financial reporting packages, including roll‑forwards, tie‑outs, and disclosures.
  • Apply US GAAP and company policies; research and document complex matters with guidance.
  • Support accounting for acquisitions and other business initiatives.
  • Prepare concise analyses for management, auditors, and cross‑functional partners.
Project Accounting, Billing, and PIT Revenue Recognition
  • Maintain project records from contracts, purchase orders, pricing, billing schedules, and shipping terms.
  • Prepare customer invoices and validate quantities, pricing, milestones, delivery evidence, taxes, tariffs, credits, and contract adjustments.
  • Apply ASC 606 point‑in‑time revenue recognition and document transfer of control using contract, shipping, delivery, and acceptance terms.
  • Perform revenue cutoff procedures and reconcile revenue, receivables, contract balances, inventory, and cost of sales.
  • Resolve invoice disputes, credits and rebills, collections follow‑up, project reconciliations, and financial closeout.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to prioritize and deliver accurate work under close deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, including clear explanations of accounting conclusions.
  • Advanced Excel skills and comfort learning ERP and reporting systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Public accounting experience, or a mix of public accounting and industry experience.
  • CPA license, active candidacy, or progress toward certification.
  • Experience with SEC reporting, SOX controls, or public companies.
  • Experience with project accounting, billing, ASC 606 point‑in‑time revenue recognition, contract balances, inventory, or project margins.

Pay is based on market location and may vary based on factors including experience, skills, education and other job‑related reasons. The annual salary range for this position is $85,000 - $95,000.
