Accounting Senior Advisor - Cigna Investment Management - Investment Accounting & Policy - Hybrid

Role Summary

The Accounting Senior Advisor will lead accounting policy across all investment asset classes and be responsible for accounting production related to Real Estate & Private Equity Partnerships and Derivatives. This role involves collaboration with Investment Management Front Office and Operational teams to assess new investment transactions, implement workflows, and maintain a controlled accounting environment. Responsibilities include ledger close, US GAAP and Statutory reporting, and internal analysis, requiring independent research and policy formulation reviewed with senior management. The candidate must use judgment and discretion to identify key metrics and provide recommendations to senior management. A bachelor’s degree with an accounting focus and at least eight years of related experience are required.

Major Duties
  1. Lead projects with business partners to implement accounting for new strategies & transactions, including research, documentation, and operational controls.
  2. Support assessment of emerging accounting guidelines (FASB, SEC, NAIC) for strategic decisions and compliance, including comment letter preparation and implementation.
  3. Complete monthly investment activity recordings and analyses with partners in a matrix environment.
  4. Support recurring accounting for alternative investments such as real estate and private equity partnerships.
  5. Lead derivative accounting processes and collaborate with partners on new derivatives strategies.
  6. Initiate process reviews and foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  7. Develop and maintain controls related to reporting and operational tasks.
  8. Participate in special projects, including system upgrades and enterprise initiatives.
  9. Prepare management reports on investment balances, results, and trends for senior leadership.
Qualifications
  1. Motivated, proactive self-starter with ownership and results orientation.
  2. Excellent communication skills for all levels.
  3. Public accounting experience is highly desirable.
  4. Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
  5. Minimum of eight years in accounting/finance.
  6. Experience with complex investment accounting issues is highly desirable.
  7. Experience with derivatives and policies is highly desirable.
  8. Experience with real estate & private equity accounting is highly desirable.
  9. Knowledge of Yardi real estate application is a plus.
  10. Strong analytical skills for financial evaluation.
  11. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, multitasking environment.
