Job summary

HHM Talent is seeking an Accounting Manager in Chattanooga, TN to supervise the accounting team and oversee daily operations. You will lead month-end and year-end closes, prepare financial statements, and ensure audit readiness for annual audits and reviews.

You will drive internal controls, optimize workflows, and assist the CFO with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis across departments and programs.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting.
• Experience overseeing accounting operations, supervising staff, and supporting team development.
• Demonstrated ability to manage month-end and year-end close, prepare financial statements, and complete bank and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Experience coordinating audits, maintaining audit readiness, and implementing effective internal controls.
• Proficiency with accounting systems and a track record of improving processes, accuracy, and efficiency.
• Experience supporting budget development, financial analysis, and budget-to-actual reporting.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Clear communication and problem-solving skills, including the ability to collaborate across departments and escalate significant issues appropriately

Responsibilities

• Oversee daily accounting operations and supervise the Senior Accountant and Accounting Coordinator, setting priorities and coaching.
• Lead month-end and year-end close, including reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and general ledger review across programs.
• Prepare accurate financial statements, schedules, and budget-to-actual reports for CFO, researching variances and explanations.
• Serve as primary audit lead, coordinating requests, preparing documentation, and supporting corrective actions.
• Maintain internal controls and documented procedures to ensure audit readiness.
• Improve accounting workflows and integrations to reduce manual work and errors.
• Support CFO with annual budgeting, departmental budgeting, forecasting, and revisions.
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, grant and contract requirements, and organizational policies.
• Coordinate with leaders to obtain financial info for grant reporting, tax filings, and board reporting.
• Provide backup accounting support and assist with system implementations and special projects
