Calibre CPA Group in Washington, DC metro area is seeking an Accounting Manager to support a portfolio of church and nonprofit clients. You will oversee core accounting functions, assist leadership with financial decisions, and help ensure audits and compliance.

The ideal candidate has nonprofit accounting experience, GAAP knowledge, strong communication, and the ability to manage multiple client relationships while working in a hybrid environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting; 5 years of accounting experience, nonprofit preferred.
• Experience with nonprofit accounting and GAAP.
• Strong communication and client-relations skills.
• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and Excel.
• Experience with budgeting, financial reporting, audits, and compliance.

Responsibilities

• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close for multiple nonprofit clients.
• Maintain general ledgers and ensure GAAP compliance.
• Prepare financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and variance analyses.
• Assist churches and leadership with budgeting and financial planning.
• Support audits, reviews, tax filings, and nonprofit compliance reporting.

Accounting Manager Nonprofit & Church Services Location Washinton DC Metro Salary Range 85000 100000 depending on experience We are seeking a highly motivated and service oriented Accounting Manager to support multiple churches throughout the Washington DC Metro Area Eligible candidates MUST live in the area This role is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys building relationships serving mission driven organizations and helping clients strengthen their financial operations The ideal candidate will have strong nonprofit accounting experience exceptional communication skills and the ability to manage multiple client relationships simultaneously Experience working directly with churches or faith based organizations is a significant plus Following the initial onboarding and probationary period this position will transition to a hybrid work schedule

POSITION OVERVIEW As an Accounting Manager you will serve as a trusted financial resource to a portfolio of church clients You will oversee core accounting functions assist leadership teams with financial decision making support audits and compliance and help implement best practices that improve operational efficiency and financial transparency This position offers a unique opportunity to combine technical accounting expertise with meaningful mission driven work that positively impacts local communities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Finance & Accounting Manage monthly quarterly and annual close processes for multiple clients including reconciliations journal entries and financial statement preparation
• Maintain accurate general ledgers and ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards
• Prepare and analyze financial reports budgets forecasts and variance analyses
• Assist churches and nonprofit leadership teams with budgeting and financial planning initiatives
• Allocate payroll shared expenses and overhead costs across programs ministries and grants
• Monitor cash flow reserves and investment activity
• Support annual audits reviews and tax filings including nonprofit compliance reporting
• Ensure timely processing and review of payroll accounts payable and related financial activities
• Maintain and improve internal accounting controls and financial procedures
• Client & Team Collaboration Build strong relationships with church leadership nonprofit executives boards and program staff
• Assist clients in developing efficient accounting systems and operational workflows
• Support preparation of financial information for board meetings leadership presentations and external stakeholders
• Coordinate with external payroll providers auditors vendors and financial partners as needed
• Mentor and support junior accounting staff by providing guidance training and technical expertise
• Communicate financial information clearly to both financial and non financial audiences
• Leadership & Continuous Improvement Train mentor and grow junior staff
• Manage client engagement plans schedules billing and weekly priorities
• Lead process improvements and tech upgrades
• Align your team to Calibres values and goals

QUALIFICATIONS

• Serve as a proactive advisor to clients by anticipating needs and recommending practical financial solutions
• Bachelors degree in Accounting 5 years of accounting experience required; public accounting andor nonprofit accounting experience strongly preferred
• Experience working with nonprofit organizations required
• Experience working with churches ministries or faith based organizations is highly preferred
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles
• Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel
• Experience with budgeting financial reporting audits grant reporting and compliance requirements
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple clients and deadlines simultaneously
• Excellent interpersonal communication and problem solving skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with both clients and internal teams
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
