Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger activity, close processes, and reconciliations.
• Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals.
• Drive improvements in month-end and quarter-end close processes for accuracy and timeliness.
• Partner cross-functionally with claims, underwriting, and finance to streamline workflows.
• Support internal controls in line with regulatory and audit requirements.
• Lead system implementations, process automation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist with financial reporting and provide leadership insights on performance.

Accounting Operations Manager

Location: Tampa, FL (Hybrid)

Oliver James is currently partnered with a growing Property & Casualty insurance carrier based in the Tampa area to identify an Accounting Operations Manager. This role will sit at the intersection of accounting, operations, and process improvement-ideal for someone who enjoys both managing a team and driving efficiencies across complex financial workflows.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger activity, close processes, and reconciliations
• Manage and mentor a team of accounting professionals, providing leadership, development, and performance oversight
• Drive improvements in month-end and quarter-end close processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness
• Partner cross-functionally with claims, underwriting, and finance teams to streamline operational accounting workflows
• Support the development and enhancement of internal controls in compliance with regulatory and audit requirements
• Lead or assist with system implementations, process automation, and continuous improvement initiatives
• Assist with financial reporting and provide insights to senior leadership on operational performance

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred)
• 6+ years of accounting experience, with a mix of public accounting and/or insurance industry experience
• Prior experience within Property & Casualty insurance is highly preferred
• Demonstrated experience managing or mentoring staff
• Strong understanding of GAAP and accounting operations within an insurance environment
• Proven ability to improve processes and implement scalable solutions
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across departments
