Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an Accounting Manager to own full-cycle AP/AR, fixed assets, and sales tax compliance across a restaurant portfolio. You will supervise the Payroll & Accounting Coordinator and part-time clerks and lead the Month-End Close with the Controller’s review.

The role requires 3–5+ years of accounting experience, leadership ability, and proficiency with ERP and POS systems, plus advanced Excel. Adaptability and process-building are valued in this dynamic environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3–5+ years of accounting experience; multi-unit, restaurant, or hospitality experience preferred.
• Prior supervisory or lead experience preferred.
• Proficiency in accounting/ERP systems, other relevant operating systems (POS, etc.), advanced Excel skills, and familiarity in navigating AI tools.
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Comfortable in a highly variable environment, even in absence of a clear process.
• Adaptable and resourceful in a dynamic environment, able to create accounting processes where none are defined yet.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Month-End Close process end-to-end: own the close calendar and journal entries, consolidate for Controller review.
• Daily maintenance of Accounts Payable software.
• Monthly Accounts Receivable management.
• Ensure Sales Tax compliance across jurisdictions, including filing and payment.
• Supervise the Payroll & Accounting Coordinator and all part-time Clerks; approve their transactions and journals.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and schedules for owned accounts and related journal entries for the close package.
• Review payroll accrual balance sheet reconciliation and journal entries each closing period.
• Review recurring balance sheet schedules and journal entries with the Controller.
• Maintain SOPs for AP, AR, and clerk tasks to support training and coverage.
• Support onboarding and training of new part-time Clerks.
• Identify gaps or risks and implement solutions.
• Assist with intercompany accounting as needed.

Replaces the former AP Manager position with broader scope, is the direct supervisor of the Payroll & Accounting Coordinator and all part‑time Accounting Clerks, and leads the Month-End Close process, with the Controller reviewing and finalizing afterward.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Month-End Close process end-to-end: own the close calendar/checklist, coordinate timely submission of schedules and journal entries from the Payroll & Accounting Coordinator and Accounting Clerks, and compile the consolidated close package for the Controller's review and final approval.
• Daily maintenance of Accounts Payable software.
• Monthly Accounts Receivable management.
• Ensure Sales Tax compliance across all jurisdictions and locations, including filing and payment.
• Directly supervise the Payroll & Accounting Coordinator and all part‑time Accounting Clerks; serve as the designated approver for transactions and journal entries they process.
• Prepare balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules for owned accounts (Accounts Receivable, Fixed Assets, Sales Tax) and the related journal entries, as part of the close package submitted to the Controller.
• Review the payroll accrual balance sheet reconciliation and journal entry prepared by the Payroll & Accounting Coordinator each closing period.
• Review recurring balance sheet schedules and journal entries prepared by Accounting Clerks (e.g., prepaid expense amortization entries), alongside the Controller.
• Own and maintain documented SOPs for AP, AR, and clerk‑level tasks to support training and coverage across part‑time staff, creating whenever necessary.
• Support onboarding and training of new part‑time Accounting Clerks.
• Identify gaps or risks and implement appropriate solutions.
• Assist with intercompany accounting as needed.
