Next Phase Enterprises is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead day-to-day accounting operations, supervise staff, and support audits and bank reporting. The role partners with the Controller and CFO to ensure accurate financial statements and compliance across the organization.

The ideal candidate has GAAP expertise, extensive experience with NetSuite, and a background in supervisory roles within accounting. This position offers a strong benefits package and a 401(k) profit-sharing plan.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of five years of experience working with GAAP and accounting information systems.
• CPA preferred.
• At least two years of public accounting experience preferred.
• At least two years of supervisory experience preferred.
• Functional knowledge of Cash Management, Accounts Receivable/Payable, Payroll, Inventory/Cost Accounting, GAAP Financial Reporting, and Internal Controls.

Responsibilities

• Manage the month-end close process.
• Manage the accounting system (Oracle NetSuite).
• Process payroll accurately and on schedule.
• Manage multi-state payroll tax compliance and filings.
• Oversee monthly accruals for freight, shipping components, and related fees.
• Oversee EDI processes and integrations with external partners.
• Prepare routine and ad hoc financial reports.
• Assist with monthly borrowing base calculation for the bank.
• Assist with the 401(k) audit information and management.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm

Pay Range: $96,100 to $128,100

Incentive Pay: Quarterly performance bonus

Role Summary

The Accounting Manager leads Next Phase Enterprises’ day-to-day accounting operations, including the month-end close, payroll, and financial reporting. This role supervises and develops the accounting team, serves as a subject-matter resource on accounting principles and systems across the organization, and supports audits, tax preparation, and bank reporting in partnership with the Controller and Chief Financial Officer.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the month-end close process
• Manage the accounting system (Oracle NetSuite)
• Process payroll accurately and on schedule
• Manage multi-state payroll tax compliance, including the preparation, review, and timely filing of required federal, state, and local payroll tax returns, registrations, reconciliations, and related reporting.
• Manage monthly accruals for freight, shipping-components, storage, promotional, and brokerage fees
• Oversee EDI processes and integrations to ensure the accurate and timely transmission of customer transactions, including purchase orders, invoices, acknowledgments, and related financial data; troubleshoot exceptions and coordinate resolution with internal teams and external partners.
• Serve as a knowledge resource to accounting personnel and managers/employees outside the Accounting department for matters pertaining to accounting principles and the accounting system
• Prepare routine and ad hoc management reports based on financial information
• Assist team with the monthly borrowing base calculation for the bank
• Assist with the preparation of 401(k) audit information and the management of the 401(k) audit process

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position supervises the GL accounting and payroll team, which currently includes a staff accountant and senior accountant.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum of five years of experience working with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and accounting information systems
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred
• At least two years of public accounting experience preferred
• At least two years of supervisory experience preferred
• Functional knowledge of the following accounting areas: Cash Management, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Payroll, Inventory/Cost Accounting, GAAP Financial Reporting, and Internal Controls

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
• Advanced proficiency with accounting information systems such as Oracle NetSuite
• Advanced knowledge of GAAP
• Intermediate knowledge of internal control design and function (COSO framework)
• Basic understanding of risk management
• Basic proficiency with report writing software
• Basic proficiency with accounts payable processing
• Basic knowledge of regulatory requirements affecting business (e.g. income tax, sales & use tax, payroll tax, unemployment, labor, etc.)
• Ability to communicate effectively with accounting and non-accounting personnel, internal and external parties
