Role Overview

The Accounting Manager will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, support accurate and timely financial reporting, and strengthen financial processes as the company scales. Partnering with Procurement, Marketing, Sales, Product, Supply Chain & Operations, and external advisors, this role will help maintain reliable financial records, effective controls, and clear visibility into business performance.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting professional who combines technical judgment, attention to detail, and proactive communication in a fast-moving, multichannel consumer business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close calendar, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare financial statements and management reporting; investigate variances and communicate key findings to finance leadership.
Revenue, Inventory & Cost Accounting
  • Oversee accounting for ecommerce, wholesale, licensing, collaborations, and other revenue streams; review revenue recognition, returns, discounts, and partner settlements.
  • Partner with Operations to reconcile inventory, track product and landed costs, and review cost of goods sold, inventory reserves, and product margins.
  • Oversee vendor bills, payment approvals, customer invoicing, collections, and cash application; maintain visibility into aging balances and exceptions.
  • Reconcile bank, credit card, and payment processor accounts; support cash forecasting and coordinate payroll accounting with internal owners and providers.
Controls, Compliance & External Support
  • Maintain documented accounting policies, approval workflows, and controls over financial transactions, system access, and supporting records.
  • Coordinate audit, tax, and other compliance requests with external advisors; maintain schedules and track required deliverables and deadlines.
Systems, Processes & Team Coordination
  • Improve accounting workflows, reconciliations, reporting, and integrations across accounting, commerce, inventory, and payment platforms.
  • Leverage modern technology, AI tools, and automation to continually optimize accounting workflows, reduce manual processes, and improve the speed, accuracy, and insightfulness of financial reporting. Proactively explore emerging technologies and identify opportunities to further enhance efficiency and scalability.
  • Lean heavily on AI/technology/automations to improve speed, accuracy and insightfulness of reporting.
  • Document SOPs, clarify ownership, and coordinate accounting staff or outsourced providers, as applicable; escalate close, control, and resource risks early.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA preferred.
  • Typically 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including ownership of close and reporting and experience reviewing others’ work.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, reconciliations, financial reporting, and internal controls.
  • Experience in retail, ecommerce, or vertically integrated consumer brands, particularly businesses where product sourcing, inventory management, and cost accounting are central to operations, is strongly preferred. Exposure to wholesale, licensing, or high-growth environments is a plus.
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills and experience with accounting or ERP systems; ability to improve processes and work with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying modern technology, AI tools, and automation to streamline workflows and improve financial processes, coupled with a strong curiosity to explore and adopt emerging technologies.
  • Excellent organization, judgment, communication, and follow-through; comfortable balancing recurring deadlines with changing priorities.
  • Curiosity to learn, a self-starter mindset and ability to work in a fast-moving environment will enable success in this role.
What Success Looks Like
  • Financial closes are completed on schedule, with accurate, insightful reporting and well-supported reconciliations.
  • Revenue, inventory, costs, and cash balances are reliable; exceptions and risks are identified and resolved promptly.
