Role Description
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Manager to join our team and oversee the integrity and accuracy of the company’s financial transactions and reporting. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for ensuring that financial statements are prepared accurately and in a timely manner, while maintaining compliance with applicable accounting standards, policies, and regulations.
The ideal candidate will have strong construction industry accounting experience, including a solid understanding of job costing, Work in Progress (WIP) reporting, and the Percentage of Completion methodology. This role requires a highly analytical and detail-oriented professional who can work independently, collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, and provide guidance to the Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the preparation of financial and statistical statements, reports, and analyses.
- Analyze financial information and investigate discrepancies to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Research and resolve accounting discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Apply strong knowledge of job costing accounting within the construction industry.
- Prepare and analyze Work in Progress (WIP) reports and calculations using the Percentage of Completion methodology.
- Interpret and apply accounting policies, rules, and regulations to ensure compliance with applicable standards.
- Compile and prepare routine financial reports, general ledger postings, account summaries, and supporting schedules.
- Perform monthly close activities, including: journal entries, accruals and reclassifications, high-volume account reconciliations and variance analysis
- Supervise cash applications and reconciliations, including bank reconciliations and intercompany transactions.
- Assist with inventory counts and inventory valuation, as needed.
- Maintain fixed asset records and asset financing schedules.
- Provide guidance, support, and orientation to Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable teams as needed.
- Support external audits and financial reviews.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting.
- Perform other accounting-related duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Experience and Education
- Associate degree in Accounting or a related field, with at least 10 years of relevant accounting experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience within the construction industry.
- Demonstrated experience with job costing, Work in Progress (WIP) reporting, and the Percentage of Completion methodology.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving skills and professional work ethic.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of IFRS and/or US GAAP reporting requirements.
- Mandatory: Strong working knowledge of IFRS 15 and/or ASC 606 (Revenue Recognition).
- Mandatory: At least 5 years of construction industry accounting experience, including WIP reporting and Percentage of Completion accounting.
- Advanced analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Advanced spreadsheet skills, including the ability to analyze and manipulate large volumes of financial data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to break down complex problems into meaningful components and develop rational, well-thought-out solutions.
