Job description

Client Advisory Services Manager – Accounting & Automation

Location: Madison, WI | Hybrid

Job Type: Full-Time

Help business owners understand their numbers—and build better ways to deliver them.

Our client, a growing CPA firm, is seeking a Client Advisory Services Manager – Accounting & Automation to combine hands-on accounting, practical client guidance, and process improvement.

This role offers an opportunity to shape how a firm delivers client advisory services. You’ll manage accounting and close activities while building systems, improving workflows, and using automation and AI to reduce repetitive work.

You’ll work directly with business owners and their internal teams through virtual meetings and ongoing communication. Many clients rely on the firm to translate financial information into clear explanations and practical next steps.

The ideal candidate is an experienced accountant who enjoys solving problems, makes sound decisions, and takes initiative. If you regularly spot an inefficient process and think, “There has to be a better way,” this role could be a strong fit.

Your Focus

This role combines hands-on accounting, client advisory work, and systems improvement. You’ll manage close activities, help clients resolve accounting challenges, and build more efficient workflows through technology and automation. You’ll also document improvements and train team members so those changes support consistent service across the firm.

What You’ll Do
  • Manage month-end close, reconciliations, and accrual-basis accounting for an assigned group of clients using NetSuite.
  • Identify repetitive tasks and improve them through templates, imports, reporting tools, workflows, and integrations.
  • Improve accounting system configurations, reports, and dashboards to support accurate, efficient financial reporting.
  • Lead the systems and workflow components of new client onboarding and accounting cleanups.
  • Work directly with business owners and their teams to resolve issues, explain financial information, and recommend practical improvements.
  • Evaluate and implement AI and automation tools that improve accounting workflows and team productivity.
  • Document processes and train team members so improvements can be used consistently across clients.
  • Exercise sound judgment, take ownership of problems, and move solutions forward.
What You Bring
  • At least 4 years of accounting experience, including public accounting or client advisory services (CAS).
  • Strong experience with month-end close, account reconciliations, and accrual-basis accounting.
  • A proactive approach to problem-solving and the ability to make decisions with appropriate independence.
  • Sound judgment when reviewing financial information and identifying issues that need attention.
  • An interest in technology, automation, and efficiency, with a concrete example of a process you improved.
  • Strong Excel or Google Sheets skills.
  • The ability to explain accounting concepts clearly to business owners without a finance background.
  • Comfort balancing client needs, accounting deadlines, and systems improvement projects.
Experience That Helps
  • NetSuite experience, including reporting, saved searches, dashboards, or workflows.
  • Experience with workflow automation platforms, systems integrations, or AI tools.
  • Experience supervising, training, or reviewing the work of accounting staff.

NetSuite experience is a plus, but candidates with strong accounting fundamentals, technical curiosity, and demonstrated problem-solving ability are encouraged to apply.

Benefits
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with employer matching
  • Health savings account
  • Life insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Hybrid work arrangement with work-from-home flexibility
