Job summary

Outpost Space in Playa Vista, CA is seeking an Accounting Manager to own day-to-day accounting operations, month-end close, A/P/A/R processing, and audits.

You’ll implement policies, controls, and systems, oversee payroll accounting and tax filings, and collaborate with FP&A, Procurement, and other teams to ensure data integrity in a fast-growing, government contracting-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
• CPA required or equivalent certification.
• 4–6 years of relevant accounting experience in startup/high-growth/corporate environments.
• Demonstrated knowledge of cost accounting and US GAAP.
• Proficiency with accounting systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, ERP).
• Experience with audits and internal controls frameworks.
• Advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
• Strong communication and ownership of accounting processes.

Responsibilities

• Own month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial results review.
• Implement and improve accounting policies, internal controls, and systems (QBO, BILL, Brex).
• Manage Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, vendor payments, billing, collections, and cash application.
• Collaborate with FP&A, Procurement, and other teams to ensure data integrity and proper accounting treatment.
• Lead external audit activities and coordinate requested schedules and documentation.

Accounting Manager

Outpost is an orbital logistics company rewriting the rules of global logistics by building reusable Earth-return vehicles that unlock in-space manufacturing, on-orbit warehousing, and 60-minute global delivery through space.

Our CarryAll vehicle family returns payloads ranging from 200 kilograms to 10 metric tons, lands within 10 meters of its target, and can then be refurbished and launched again. One vehicle, many missions: responsive logistics and precision delivery for national security; commercial cargo moved with real cadence; R&D payloads flown, tested, and refined across repeatable cycles; and critical aid delivered where roads and runways can't reach.

The demand is already here, validated through defense and civil agreements and supported by a growing pipeline of government and commercial customers.

Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Accounting Manager to join our growing team. This role is responsible for owning the day-to-day accounting operations, including bookkeeping, accounts payable/receivable processing, and owning monthly close activities and audits. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting knowledge, accuracy, and organizational skills, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

Own month-end and year-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and review of financial results to ensure accurate and complete financial records.

Implement, maintain, and improve accounting policies, internal controls, and financial systems, including QBO, BILL, and Brex.

Own and oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including vendor payments, billing, collections, cash application, expense coding, and approval workflows.

Partner closely with FP&A, Procurement, and other departments to ensure financial data integrity, proper accounting treatment, and operational alignment.

Lead the accounting side of external audits and coordinate audit requests, supporting schedules, and required documentation.

Manage payroll-related accounting, reconciliations, and associated federal, state, and local compliance requirements.

Own the company tax compliance calendar and coordinate timely federal, state, local, and international tax filings and payments with external tax advisors.

Monitor company expansion and business activity for new or changing tax filing and compliance requirements, including sales and use tax, franchise tax, property tax, and other applicable obligations.

Review monthly financial results and provide base-level commentary explaining material month-over-month and budget-to-actual variances.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance

CPA Required

4 - 6 years of relevant accounting experience (startup, high-growth, or corporate environment preferred)

Demonstrated knowledge of cost accounting

Strong management of U.S. GAAP

Proficiency in accounting systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar ERP platforms)

Exposure to audit processes and/or internal controls frameworks

Advanced Excel skills (e.g., lookups, pivot tables, data analysis)

High attention to detail and strong organizational discipline

Clear communicator with the ability to work cross-functionally

Demonstrated ability having ownership of accounting processes

Experience in manufacturing or government contracting environments

Compensation & Benefits
