Accounting Manager - Rivertown Dental
POSITION SUMMARY

The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the day-to-day accounting function for Rivertown Dental and ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of the organization’s financial records and reporting. This role owns the monthly close process, general ledger, account reconciliations, accruals, fixed assets, accounts payable oversight, payroll accounting, and the accounting controls necessary to support a growing multi-location dental organization.

The Accounting Manager serves as the internal subject matter expert for accounting operations, partnering closely with executive leadership and external finance, tax, audit, and advisory partners. This individual will establish scalable accounting processes, strengthen financial controls, improve reporting accuracy, and ensure leadership has reliable financial information from which to operate the business.

The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting knowledge with an operational mindset and has experience improving accounting processes in a growing or multi-entity organization. Success in this position requires accuracy, accountability, sound judgment, strong communication skills, and the ability to move between detailed accounting work and higher-level financial analysis.

  • Monthly financial statements are accurate, complete, and consistently delivered according to an established close calendar.
  • Balance sheet accounts are reconciled and supported, with discrepancies identified and resolved promptly.

  • Leadership and external finance partners can confidently rely on the accounting data used for forecasting, planning, and strategic decision-making.
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

Manage the complete month-end and year-end close process, establishing a consistent close calendar and ensuring financial statements are completed accurately and on schedule.

Own the general ledger and ensure transactions are appropriately classified, supported, recorded, and reconciled in accordance with established accounting policies.

Prepare and review monthly income statements, balance sheets, cash flow reporting, and supporting schedules while identifying material discrepancies or unusual activity.

  • Ensure bank accounts, credit cards, liabilities, payroll accounts, fixed assets, intercompany accounts, and other balance sheet accounts are reconciled monthly.
  • Maintain effective AP processes, vendor controls, payment workflows, approval procedures, coding standards, and appropriate separation of duties.
  • Ensure payroll-related transactions, liabilities, benefits, taxes, deductions, and journal entries are accurately reflected within the general ledger and reconciled to payroll records.
  • Establish and maintain accurate fixed asset schedules, capitalization practices, depreciation schedules, disposals, and supporting documentation.
  • Identify financial control gaps and implement appropriate processes, approval structures, documentation requirements, and safeguards to protect company assets and financial integrity.
  • Document and continuously improve accounting policies, procedures, workflows, close checklists, reconciliations, and other standard operating procedures.
  • Coordinate accounting documentation and schedules required by external tax professionals, auditors, lenders, advisors, and other financial partners.
  • Maintain accurate accounting across locations, entities, departments, and cost centers while ensuring the accounting infrastructure can support acquisitions, new locations, and organizational growth.
  • Provide clean, timely, and reliable actual financial results to executive leadership and Tower so forecasting, budgeting, financial modeling, KPI analysis, and strategic planning are built from accurate underlying data.
COMPTENCIES
  • Demonstrates strong command of GAAP, general ledger accounting, financial statements, accrual accounting, reconciliations, and close procedures.
  • Maintains a high standard of accuracy and identifies inconsistencies before they affect financial reporting.

  • Understands financial risk and develops practical controls that improve accountability without unnecessarily slowing operations.
  • Identifies inefficient or inconsistent accounting processes and creates scalable, repeatable solutions.
  • Interprets financial information, investigates variances, identifies underlying issues, and communicates findings clearly.
  • Effectively leverages accounting, payroll, reporting, and financial technology to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Takes responsibility for financial deliverables and follows issues through resolution rather than simply identifying problems.
  • Effectively manages recurring deadlines, competing priorities, and multiple accounting workstreams.
  • Works collaboratively with operations, leadership, external advisors, and other departments while maintaining appropriate financial discipline.
  • Translates accounting matters into clear, practical information for both financial and non-financial stakeholders.
  • Handles sensitive payroll, employee, vendor, ownership, and financial information with discretion and sound judgment.
EDUCATION
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including responsibility for general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.
  • 2+ years of experience in an Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, Assistant Controller, or comparable accounting leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience managing or materially contributing to monthly and year-end close processes.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and accrual-based accounting principles.
  • Experience with accounts payable, payroll accounting, fixed assets, balance sheet reconciliations, and internal accounting controls.
