Job Summary

The Accounting Manager is responsible for the overall financial management, reporting, and accounting operations for Art.com. This role provides essential financial management while ensuring the accuracy and timely completion of monthly financial cycles, maintaining department workflows, and directly supervising the accounting staff. The Accounting Manager serves as a practical, execution-focused leader, delivering accurate financial data to support the Controller as well as the Art.com leadership team.

This role is an on-site opportunity reporting to our Indianapolis office five days per week.

General Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Reporting
  • Manage and oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts payable (AP), and general ledger (GL) maintenance
  • Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring all deadlines are met.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements (balance sheets, income statements, cash flow).
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for cost reduction.
  • Assist in various tax reporting (e.g. sales, property, income)
  • Evaluate accounting procedures and recommend process improvements to increase efficiency, reduce risk, and support organizational growth.
  • Gather baseline historical financial figures and template inputs to support the annual budgeting process.
  • Ad hoc reporting for various members of management
Compliance & Audit
  • Ensure all accounting policies and financial transactions comply with GAAP and relevant legal/tax regulations.
  • Develop and enforce robust internal financial controls to safeguard company assets and mitigate risk.
  • Assist in the annual financial statement audit, providing financial information, documentation, and auditor requests.
Leadership & Team Development
  • Supervise, mentor, and evaluate accounting staff by providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Delegate tasks appropriately while maintaining ultimate oversight of department accuracy and output.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement, and exceptional customer service within the accounting function.
  • Implement best practices, software upgrades, or automation tools to reduce errors and improve reporting.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP systems.
  • Ability to interpret financial data and communicate complex information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities across several business entities while meeting deadlines.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and discretion when handling confidential information.
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance and 2+ years professional/managerial experience
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office experience, specifically with Excel.
Physical Requirements
  • This role requires communication effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.
  • This role requires navigation of multiple screens for several hours a time.
  • This role requires observing and comprehending various data and communications.
