Job summary

Base Power Company in Austin, TX is seeking an Accounting Manager to lead our general ledger, close processes, and financial reporting in a fast-growing startup environment.

You will design and implement accounting systems, including ERP, partner with cross-functional teams, and mentor the accounting staff while we scale and improve controls. This hands-on role places you at the core of financial strategy as Base expands in renewable energy.

Qualifications

• CPA preferred; professional accounting certification.
• 5+ years of accounting experience with US GAAP.
• Experience designing and implementing accounting systems, including ERP.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily accounting operations including general ledger, cash management, accounts payable, travel & expense, and financial reporting.
• Oversee period-end close processes and accelerate close timelines.
• Prepare and review journal entries and reconciliations with strong documentation.
• Draft technical accounting memorandums under FASB for complex reporting matters.
• Manage general ledger coding, data attributes, and transaction classifications.
• Analyze financial data to identify discrepancies, trends and improvement opportunities.
• Enhance ERP, Payroll, Payables, and T&E systems to scale operations.
• Establish, document, and improve compliant accounting policies and procedures.
• Provide leadership and mentoring to the accounting team.
• Support strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects within accounting.
• Perform related duties as needed.

About The Role

The Accounting Manager role at Base will be critical in the development of our accounting operations. Accounting owns the end-to-end financial reporting process, ensuring compliant, accurate and timely financial data is available to decision makers. This role will lead the general ledger functions, manage close activities and timelines, and support the evolution of our accounting systems. The accounting needs are growing rapidly, making this a unique opportunity to be involved early in key business decisions and form partnerships with other functional leads.

What You'll Do

• Lead and manage the day to day operations of the accounting department, including general ledger, cash management, accounts payable, travel & expense, and financial reporting.
• Oversee period end close processes, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting, while accelerating the close timeline.
• Prepare and review journal entries and reconciliations, ensuring high quality supporting documentation.
• Draft technical accounting memorandums in accordance with FASB codification to support unique and complex reporting matters.
• Manage general ledger coding procedures, ensuring proper classification, use of data attributes, and accounting treatment of transactions.
• Conduct thorough analyzes of financial data to identify discrepancies, trends, and opportunities for improvement.
• Enhance the company’s financial systems, including ERP, Payroll, Payables, and T&E to enable operational efficiencies that scale.
• Establish, document, implement, and improve on compliant accounting policies and procedures.
• Provide leadership and mentoring to the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
• Support the accounting department in projects and strategic initiatives.
• Maintain a no job to small mentality, being able to perform other procedures within the general scope of this role.

What You'll Bring

• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in accounting, demonstrating advanced knowledge of accounting principles under US GAAP.
• Demonstrated ability to design and implement accounting systems, including ERP.
• Mix of public and private accounting experience preferred, bonus if in the renewable energy or utility space.
