Job summary

TerraFirma is seeking an Accounting Manager to build and operate the accounting foundation of a rapidly growing construction and technology company.

You will own the day-to-day accounting function, including the monthly close, financial reporting, billing, collections, and vendor payments. You will also help establish systems and processes needed to support complex construction projects, government contracts, international operations, and continued growth.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• Experience managing the monthly close and preparing financial statements.
• Strong understanding of accrual accounting, reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working directly in the underlying data.

Responsibilities

• Own the monthly close, including reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statement preparation
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable, vendor records, billing, and collections
• Maintain accurate accounting records across projects, construction operations, government contracts, intercompany activity, and international entities
• Coordinate with external accounting, tax, audit, payroll, and compliance providers
• Improve accounting controls, processes, and documentation as the company scales
• Lead accounting data cleanup and support the migration to a new ERP system
• Work with finance and operating teams to resolve accounting issues and ensure transactions are recorded accurately and on time

Job Overview

This is a hands-on role for someone who is comfortable both maintaining accurate records and improving how the work gets done.

Basic Qualifications

• Experience managing the monthly close and preparing financial statements

• Highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working directly in the underlying data

Preferred Skills & Experience

• CPA or public accounting experience
• Experience in construction, project-based accounting, government contracting, or another operationally complex business
• Experience with intercompany and international accounting
• Experience implementing or migrating accounting or ERP systems
• Familiarity with revenue recognition, cost accounting, and project-level financial reporting

Additional Requirements

• Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment
• Must be willing to relocate to Austin, TX if not within commuting distance
• Must be willing to work extended hours when needed to support critical deadlines

Compensation & Benefits

Base compensation will vary based on factors such as relevant experience and education. Salaries and leveling will be determined on a case-by-case basis if an offer is extended. Our total compensation package also includes equity in TerraFirma. Relocation packages are available to help cover moving costs, if applicable.
