Job summary

CarMax Accounting is seeking a talented individual for a 10-week, project-based summer internship at our Home Office in Richmond, Virginia. You will gain exposure to corporate accounting through real-time projects across multiple functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and financial reporting.

Ideal candidates are rising juniors or seniors in a 4-year business degree program, with a strong GPA and solid knowledge of accounting terminology.

• Excellent academic record (GPA, scholarships, awards, or honors).
• Intermediate proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Responsibilities

• Assist in various accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivable, payroll, corporate accounting, fixed assets, and financial reporting.
• Engage in mixed independent and collaborative projects and may interact with customers or vendors.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the accounting department.

WHAT YOU’LL DO - ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The work our interns perform isconsistent withthe work performed by our full-time associates, including real‑time projects and issues that our teams are actively trying to solve. There will be opportunities to contribute to projects across a variety of accountingfunctions,which may include accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, corporate accounting, fixed assets, financial reporting, etc. Responsibilities willinclude a mix of independent work and collaborative, cross-functional projects, and may include interactions with customers and/or vendors.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

This internship is designedtoassist the CarMax Accounting Department through a variety of tasks ranging from special projects to recurring monthly and quarterly tactical items. Ideal candidates are those who are interested in:

• Obtaining hands‑on experience that will provide exposure to thedifferent functionsthat combine to form a corporate accounting department
• Contributing to the goals that support our accounting initiative
• Contributing ideas and opinions to support our continuous improvement environment
• Developing technical and business acumen
• Building relationships with leaders and associates across the organization

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

• A rising junior or rising senior in a 4-year business degree program (accounting preferred but notrequired) with an understanding of basic accounting terminology

• A history of achievement and aptitude demonstrated by a strong GPA, and/or other recognition such as scholarships, awards, or honor societies

• Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel required (e.g., filtering, v-lookups, subtotals, shortcuts, etc.)

• Requires mathematical skills that would be gained from a typical undergraduate accounting or business curriculum

• Familiarity with Oracle is a plus, but notrequired

Work Authorization:

• Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. Sponsorship will not be considered for this specific role.

Work Location:

Associates will work from our Corporate Headquarters located in Richmond, VA, which has a Hybrid work arrangement in office4 days a week.

Benefits:

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:

• To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company.
• For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday. If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay.

Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
