Job description

Accounting Intern

About Allen Lund Company

With $1,000 in his pocket, Allen Lund made the brave decision to start his own transportation brokerage company in 1976, opening the first office in Los Angeles adjacent to the produce market. Allen and his wife Kathie began what he referred to as "living the American dream." As the years went on, the company continued to grow, expanding offices across the country.

Under Allen's guidance, his family became deeply involved in day-to-day operations, having worked the brokerage desk to truly understand the business inside and out. Today, Allen Lund Company remains a privately held, family-oriented organization with over 40 nationwide offices, driven by low turnover, exceptional service, and a strong commitment to community involvement and employee success.

Internship Overview

Ever wondered how financial operations keep nationwide supply chains moving seamlessly? Allen Lund Company is looking for an energetic, detail-minded Accounting Intern to dive into the core financial hub of our branch operations! Reporting to branch leadership, this hands‑on internship offers a clear, practical look into corporate accounting, freight file settlement, accounts receivable, and carrier setup.

Instead of getting stuck with dry textbook theory, you'll gain practical experience managing real billing workflows, conducting financial verifications, working with freight brokers, and ensuring carriers get paid accurately and on time. If you have an eye for numbers, enjoy solving real business puzzles, and want to build a standout resume in corporate finance and logistics, this opportunity is built for you!

What You'll Learn & Do

  • File Settlement & Billing Operations: Learn how to review Bills of Lading (BOLs), verify that loaded quantities match delivered cargo with zero damages, and resolve discrepancies directly with freight brokers prior to settlement.
  • Accounts Payable & Carrier Settlements: Process carrier and third‑party invoices, issue Comchecks and quick pays, balance freight files, and forward completed paperwork to corporate accounting for payment.
  • Carrier Onboarding & Risk Management: Assist with onboarding carrier partners, ensure proper documentation reaches Carrier Resources, contact insurance providers for updated Certificates of Insurance (COIs), and complete reference checks.
  • Accounts Receivable & Collections: Input and verify invoicing details for shippers, run weekly receivables reports to catch invoicing errors or adjustments, handle AR inquiries, and learn the fundamentals of the corporate collections process.
  • Vendor & Carrier Dispute Resolution: Collaborate directly with carriers, factoring companies, and brokers to resolve A/P issues, track delinquent Proof of Deliveries (PODs), and manage uninvoiced files.
  • Core Branch Accounting & Systems: Maintain organized filing systems for settled freight files, update customer platforms, and perform essential daily office operations.

What We're Looking For

  • Currently enrolled undergraduate student or recent graduate in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
  • Strong attention to detail with an analytical approach to matching numbers, verifying documents, and catching discrepancies.
  • Solid digital literacy and comfort navigating spreadsheets, accounting platforms, and Google Workspace.
  • Clear, professional written and verbal communication skills for phone and email interactions with carriers, shippers, and internal teams.
  • Organized multi‑tasker who enjoys solving practical problems and collaborating in a supportive team setting.
  • No prior freight accounting experience required—we provide full training and mentorship!
